He would be THROWN OUT! Literally THROWN OUT. Acosta looked shaken.

CNN will just replace the reporter and acquiesce. If they take a stand, they lose out on access to Trump.
He's bullying everybody and Bully's only respond to force.

(17,305 posts)At least they were wise enough not to try to escort Acosta out when he did insist on asking a question. That would have been a major blunder played over and over again. Don the Con has dug a hole deep enough already (but he won't put the shovel down for long).
If they took this to court and won (which they would) they could just force Drumpf to answer questions or take him to court for violating an order. They don't need him nice, he's only nice when someone is sucking up to him.

(27,811 posts)They, and all the so-called reporters who wouldn't stop talking about emails month after month after month, and who waited at half-filled stadia for this monster to show up at his rallies while other candidates were having real events all over the place, and who provided moderators to debates who wouldn't ask questions about climate change and women's issues, and news anchors who wouldn't report real news, and the list goes on.
It makes me ill. I don't care if he provided ratings. I'm sorry that we're in the place where ratings drive news, but the media bears a huge responsibility in all this. I couldn't turn on cable news without seeing that asshat's face all summer long, and to the people who wouldn't stop watching him ("oh, he's fascinating" , well, they bear a little bit of responsibility too.

(157 posts)But this started WAY before he ran for office. They covered his ridiculous birther movement even though it didn't deserve one second of coverage given that it was born out of racism and was irrelevant since President Obama's mother was a US citizen and her children are therefore automatically US citizens regardless of where they were born. He gained national notoriety through that movement before running for office. THAT is what built this orange monster. Now they are so offended by how he is treating members of their community. Well, welcome to the party. They should get no sympathy from us as we have been offended by this con man since he first landed on our television screens.

calimary
(81,267 posts)As well she should. She could NOT help herself, day after day, month after month, throughout the campaign - dishing whatever gossip she could scrape off the windshield about Hillary's emails. Info from fake news outlets that had been picked up by more "established" sites like Drudge (gee, and Breitbart, too, why not? As long as you're here...), or perhaps even handed to her by her gooooo-oooood sources within the RNC (gee, like they didn't have an agenda...). And throughout that her demeanor on air was just a whiff of smugness, that seemed to telegraph "this is such a fun story, I'm having so much fun on this story, ooo-oooh this story's juicy, oooh look we're closing in on her, dig the dirt! Dig the dirt!! Ooo-oooo lookey, I'm the lead again! Um - how soon am I on again?"
Now she looks sobered and more serious. Maybe it's just me, but I think I see just a touch of skittishness, the look of having to wear a guilty conscience around.
I interject here - from the confirmation hearing today:
Cory Booker was IMPRESSIVE. Made me suspect I was watching a Democratic presidential candidate someday (soon)? That was QUITE a speech he gave, sitting at the witness table.
John Lewis is seated at the same table. The word "magnificent" keeps popping up in my mind.

I was appalled for nearly a year in advance of this so-called *election* that every cable news outlet was covering this cretin nonstop. Why in the hell was MSNBC news covering his every rally from start to finish? They and every other cable news channel and virtually all the print media were chuckling at what they thought was just a joke and a longshot. Well, guess what? The joke's on them now! And, unfortunately, everyone else with a pulse.
It's a helluva lot easier to make a dictator than it is to control the bastard once they're unleashed and unfettered, and that's what we've got here: Amerika's very own Vlad Putin!

(14,918 posts)"Nazi Propaganda and Censorship
Once they succeeded in ending democracy and turning Germany into a one-party dictatorship, the Nazis orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to win the loyalty and cooperation of Germans. The Nazi Propaganda Ministry, directed by Dr. Joseph Goebbels, took control of all forms of communication in Germany: newspapers, magazines, books, public meetings, and rallies, art, music, movies, and radio. Viewpoints in any way threatening to Nazi beliefs or to the regime were censored or eliminated from all media.
During the spring of 1933, Nazi student organizations, professors, and librarians made up long lists of books they thought should not be read by Germans. Then, on the night of May 10, 1933, Nazis raided libraries and bookstores across Germany. They marched by torchlight in nighttime parades, sang chants, and threw books into huge bonfires. On that night more than 25,000 books were burned. Some were works of Jewish writers, including Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud. Most of the books were by non-Jewish writers, including such famous Americans as Jack London, Ernest Hemingway, and Sinclair Lewis, whose ideas the Nazis viewed as different from their own and therefore not to be read.
The Nazi censors also burned the books of Helen Keller, who had overcome her deafness and blindness to become a respected writer; told of the book burnings, she responded: "Tyranny cannot defeat the power of ideas." Hundreds of thousands of people in the United States protested the book burnings, a clear violation of freedom of speech, in public rallies in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and St. Louis.
Schools also played an important role in spreading Nazi ideas. While some books were removed from classrooms by censors, other textbooks, newly written, were brought in to teach students blind obedience to the party, love for Hitler, and antisemitism. After-school meetings of the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls trained children to be faithful to the Nazi party. In school and out, young people celebrated such occasions as Adolf Hitler's birthday and the anniversary of his taking power.".....

I keep hearing people saying they won't watch the MSM news anymore it upsets and depresses them so. This whole mess won't end well for Trump and he'll take the GOP down with him before it's all over.
The MSM and Congress critters will grow a pair eventually and the court system will be an asset.
Long term, the demographics are in our favor. What we need desperately is a progressive mouthpiece - the equivalent of Fox News for broadcast and some left wing radio stations killing it on the am dial.

(5,810 posts)so that tRump could do exactly what he did. He HOPED Acosta would try to ask a question so he could slap him down, be the tough guy, show him (and other news agencies) what happens to people who dare challenge him....on any subject, on anything. If anyone thought he was going to be more Presidential after the election, we got our answer today. This so called news conference was a train wreck of the circus. Wild animals running everywhere while the wreckage was piled up, steam and flames coming out of all sides.
Yes, people, the madman is about to take over and if you don't have on a heavy duty seatbelt, you might be in for a rough ride...a very rough ride. I don't think trump knows it yet, but the ride will be equally as rough for him.

(24,701 posts)it comes back to haunt you, and the only thing you are worried about is making money for your oligarchy comes back to haunt you, and instead of asking policy questions and then used the election as something else and basically enabled a corrupt serial pathological liar to gain power, and then go around and say we have never been in these waters before, well guess what, all you have to do is look around the world and see it played out, again it comes back to bite you, and now the entire country is going to pay the price of journalistic malfeasance.
The MSM and cable media failed to hold this man accountable and now they are seeing what he plans to do, go after the media and the intelligence community, all one has to do is look at how authoritarian's used this play book
