My mom, to my sisters and me: “…and when the Russians invade America, the first thing they’ll do is round up all the businessmen. They’ll make them dig their own graves and then shoot them on the spot.”

My dad: “No invasion. H-bomb.”

My mom: “Jim, stop. You’ll frighten the girls.”

I’m sure that sweet little slice of life resurfaced in my head because of TrumPutin. If a PEOUS during the Cold War had been implicated in dealings with Russia, he or she would have been toast. Why is it different now? What’s going on?

1. The Cold War ended with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991.

What we have now is conventional Machiavellian politics between oligarchs in the world's regional power centers to grab as many assets as they can before the SHTF.
