Well, I had to let him know better.
He posted: "Its so fun to be deplorable and sit back and watch and listen to your lib heads explode."
My response:
I am certainly a West Coast Liberal. I don't drink lattes but I do drive a Volvo.
But, my head and that of others, is not exploding. I have to say nothing surprises me anymore. Certainly not Trump's win in the election. Certainly not his immediate about face on campaign promises.
In fact, I'm having fun watching the heads of Trump voters explode as they realize they have been taken for a ride. They've been suckered.
Explode as they realize the ACA where THEY get their insurance is actually the same thing as "Obamacare" where all those OTHER PEOPLE (non-whites) got their insurance. That the ACA health insurance that saved granny from cancer (the cancer from the coal dust and other industrial waste) will now be taken away - no more chemo for granny. Too bad, so sad. She already lead a full life anyway. She served the only purpose a woman is good for - giving their husbands children. RIP granny.
Explode as they realize Mexico is never going to pay for a wall that is not even feasible. And congress is not going to vote for higher tariffs on Mexico or anyone else.
Explode as they realize all those coal jobs are never coming back no matter what Trump promised. Newsflash - renewables are now as economic as fossil fuels. And the rest of the world that actually believes the science on climate change is moving to renewables and away from fossil fuels. For goodness sakes, freaking TEXAS is a leader in solar jobs. Catch up coal country. Nether McConnell nor Trump is going to save you. The coal barrons have these neat giant machines that let them rip the top of your mountains off for coal. With very few people to operate them. They dump the cancer-causing waste in your drinking water and don't bother employing you.
Sure, China is importing more coal. But hey, Trump wants to muck up relations with them right away over Taiwan and the South China Sea. Not too good for business.
And "drain the swamp?" That was so funny when he said it on the campaign trail and even funnier now that he has the richest, whitest cabinet since Reagan. Goldman Sachs is delighted to be so represented on the cabinet and in the administration..
Speaking of St. Ronnie Reagan (The President with the MOST scandals and the largest number of convicted administration members - more than Nixon. I'm betting Trump will exceed both of them.) I'm sure St. Ronnie would have something to say about Trump's inappropriate relations with Russia. It really does appear Golden Boy Trump is Putin's bitch. Pun intended on the golden part.
Far from exploding, I'm laughing. And he's not even sworn in yet. This is going to be a hilarious 4 years. Trump voters wanted the reality show host - now they have him. Hope they enjoy their new reality.
Cheers!

(9,760 posts)It's such a shame that the RWers would be happy to see anything bad thing happen for the sick pleasure of seeing liberals upset by it, no matter what the other consequences.
The reason liberals would be upset is that they care about the health, safety, and general welfare of their fellow human beings. If that bothers you, you're the one whose head ought to explode.

(14,853 posts)That's the pattern of behavior that I've noticed among Trump supporters... they're far more pleased by the idea that they made other people upset rather than celebrating his electoral college win.

(7,968 posts)I think the world is in a very very dangerous situation. Trump is going to snuggle up to Russia and become belligerent towards China. He's going to vacate the Iran nuclear deal and he doesn't understand the North Korean situation.
As you said he's a climate denier but we may not have to worry about that as the big fall may be coming sooner than that given Trump's inability to grasp the subtleties of the world diplomatic situation.

(56,828 posts)it's 1 or 2 out of every 100. If just 1 vote in 100 flipped this past election, Clinton wins in an electoral landslide - MI, WI and PA, but also NC and FL go her way.
ProfessorGAC
(64,971 posts)A large part of that crowd is irredeemable. But, 2 or 3 % finding out they've been lied to and tricked would have a huge impact on future elections. (I think it's more like 2 or 3 out of 100, NewJeff. The math doesn't quite work out if we include the legislative seats, but 2 to 3% does.)
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)2, 3 or 4 out of 100 should be the goal. My 1 in 100 was for the last election - if 1 vote in 100 had changed from R to D (a 2% swing), it would have given not only Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to Clinton, but also NC and Florida. The story coming out of the election would have been the electoral landslide for Clinton and if the GOP was doomed at the presidential level for the foreseeable future (after losing with McCain, Romney and Trump)
Of course, you could also say that 1 in 100 more going from Clinton to Trump gives Trump NH and VA as well.
RealityChik
(382 posts)If you read between the lines about Trump's true intent behind any voter fraud investigation, the results will be more sabotage to our election integrity, not less.
Dems will have to win everything by landslide because landslides are almost impossible to flip. Close races are easy to manipulate.
So, I'd say a conservative goal for changing minds would have to be at least 25 of every 100. Especially since not a single Dem in Congress is paying any attention to taking steps to validate vote counts or to mandate recounts without state election officials participation and without lawsuits to stop recounts! Dems will keep losing if we don't push them to put a stop to Republican election rigging. In fact, why spend billions on elections at all, if the Republicans have the power to know who the winners will be? Take away that power and we won't have to engineer landslides to win. Easier said than done, I know!
And I don't know about the rest of you, but a landslide democratic candidate for 2020 doesn't seem to be on the horizon, not even a shadow or a whisper. That makes me very nervous. When Obama spoke at the 2004 Dem Convention, you just KNEW he was going to be the landslide candidate for 2008. We better be finding one REAL soon.
And down-ticket? There are at least 6 vulnerable Senate seats occupied by Dems in states that voted heavily for Trump. It's going to be an uphill battle for 2018, so the heat is on! We need to stay focused every minute leading up to 2018.

(14,569 posts)www.Nationalpopularvote.com
If we can get enough grass roots support, and get enough state legislators to pass the national popular vote legislation, which requires electors in states to vote the way the popular vote went, then we, in effect, have eliminated the relevance of the electoral college. And all we need are state legislators in enough states that make up 270 electoral votes to pass this legislation, and governors to sign off, and viola, direct democracy in the presidential election!

(23,968 posts)...when I was 8, and to whom I was close until my early 20s, rather shocked me a couple of years ago when I saw some of her Facebook posts dissing "libtards" and making vile comments about the Obamas. I suspect she has no idea that she is talking about me when she complains about libtards.
The last time we saw each other was at our HS 40th reunion, at which time I had not seen her FB posts. I've not responded to any of her public statements, and probably won't, not being particularly confrontational by nature. Many of my classmates have, and share her views.
The thought that keeps coming to mind, were I to respond, would be along the lines of, "How disappointing to learn that people I grew up with, and thought I knew, are such intolerant bigots." She is a "good Christian," of course.
I have looked forward to past reunions. Not so sure I even want to go to the 50th, which will be in 2019.

(10,252 posts)To your friend, something like, "I'm disappointed that you have such ill-will in your heart. I always thought that you were a much better person than that. To take delight in seeing others hurt and suffer is deplorable. It shows a complete lack of morals. Have you forgotten the Golden rule about treating others as you would want to be treated. I hope you can get back to valueing people over money as a higher virtue?"
I personally believe that it is a lack or morality that is at the root of Trumpism.

(1,148 posts)As disappointing and scary the election's outcome is to me, it confirmed my suspicions about the right. They're ill-informed, ignorant, bigoted. They're no longer just people who have a different opinion.
DJT is going to be a terrible president. He's already an awful and embarrassing PEOTUS. It's beyond bias and perception - it's a clear fact. The guy embarrasses himself every day and blatantly lies. His cabinet is full of filthy rich and theocratic hypocrites.
We're not going to have the pretense of a legitimate presidency this time.
It's going to be awful, but personally, it makes me more secure in my political choices than ever.

(14,168 posts)It is a little pointless but I still think its important to use the chance to 'educate' them.
Somewhat pointless because it seems like they don't care if Trump will make their lives harder, as long as it makes Libtards lives harder. Or they just don't believe it even as it will be happening. Or they will believe that whatever economic problems happen it will be because of the previous Democratic administration. (Wait for it, that talking point is coming)
But I'm also appalled at the mean spirited schadenfreude all over the net. The sick thing is they get their inspiration from the commander in chief (elect) himself.
