One would almost think that exposing government war crimes was worse than committing them.

And btw, Manning's treatment was a factor in Snowden going overseas to release his info, instead of sticking around.

DNC emails. Do you have info or a link that connects the hacking of the DNC computers to Manning? Relating the Russians actions to Manning's is a step only a RWNJ could come up with. Manning has served 7 odd years for the "Crime" of releasing documents of US War Crimes. That is the actual crime.

The difference is that the crime is still on Manning's record. Not that in her case it makes much difference given how famous she is over this, so that future potential employers etc would know exactly who she is.

Manning may have helped bolster Wikileaks, but faux liberals were the ones who drooled as every pro-Russia hit piece against the Democrats came out and they cheered it on without questioning motivations.

Manning had issues, made a very stupid mistake, and doesn't deserve the time she was getting.

First, your failure to refer to Chelsea by her chosen name and gender identification not once but several times is offensive and, frankly, not within the bounds of decent conversation here. So I'm asking nicely, edit your post or expect an alert on it.

Second, Chelsea has served a harsher sentence in seven years than most of us could endure for mere days. Notice that nowhere does President Obama absolve her of her crimes. What she did was wrong and misguided but she did pay a price for that and now I hope that she can lead a life of obscurity away from the public eye and have access to the medical treatments that she needs, which she was not getting in prison.

Finally, to suggest that somehow Chelsea's published relevations led to what we saw this summer and fall in Assange's Wikileaks of the DNC is just ridiculous. While some on the far left heralded Assange, those who are familiar with him understood that he was an opportunist and essentially a libertarian by our political definitions and nothing in his career could remotely be considered leftist or Liberal.

Your post is misguided and reeks of shit stirring.

that commuting her sentence will probably save her life. I think being in a military prison as a well known trans-gender person would have been a death sentence for her under the fascist Trump regime. She would have been found one day a victim of 'suicide' and it would have been swept under the rug. Case closed.

Although I don't like what she did, she owned up to her crime and spent some very hard time. Obama made the right decision on many levels. I hope others like her are as fortunate.

To you Obama...

edited for explanation...

Not all solders are murderers and not all whistle blowers are completely Innocent. There is evil on both sides of the isle, and sometime the best of intentions can go very wrong. Chelsea admitted she was wrong and that was enough along with time served for Obama to commute her sentence. My opinion didnt sway him nor anyone else's. The decision was his.

It was humane. 35 years was a harsh sentence. After the election of Trump, Chelsea would not have had her sentence reduced. This to me is not a comment on what Chelsea did but agreement with Obama's decision. Petraeus is walking around a free man. Rove is walking around a free man. Cheney is walking around a free man. Countless others more powerful than Chelsea have paid no price.

if she were still n prison. Oswald's demise is instructive. Barack is normally very chary of admitting deep state operations, for example the vote rigging that handed his own office to Trump, so this was probably not his primary consideration, but it might have been.
