Just arrived and cab driver says it's like a ghost town. Absolutely different from Obama inauguration. No traffic but lots of roadblocks. I got a table at a top restaurant no problem.
My flight from Boston was packed with women's marchers.
What's everyone else seeing?

(12,029 posts)Lots of Trump popup shops selling Trump stuff. Feel like I'm walking a street during the 3rd Reich

For others... a great virtual tour of The Natural History Museum (such a gorgeous building):

(11,924 posts)I was able to get a few more people to go with me to the Women's March if we split the time between the march and a museum. Just got to thinking that the museums might be closed because of the crowds.

(12,029 posts)Small Standing Rock protest on F street. Few hundred people. Very well behaved, some drumming and chanting. Asshole in tuxedo walks by and yells "fuck you all!"
Much larger protest (anti- Trump) outside National Press Union, several thousand, big police presence.
Barricades and cages everywhere. Traffic gridlock due to closed streets. Choppers overhead back and forth...

(6,344 posts)They are going to their hotel outside of the city, and then tomorrow visiting the Smithsonian. No inaugural protesting, just a boycott of it. Then why are going to the Women's March, which is why they are there.

(34,137 posts)Is the National Museum of the American Indian. They have a fantastic cafe in which different stations offer regional dishes. When my husband and I were there on Election Day we shared a platter with buffalo steak and salmon fillet, mushrooms, beet salad and more. The museum is on the end of the Mall toward the Capitol Building but the entrance is on the side of the building away from the Mall.
We spent the entire day in that one building - I could have spent another day just there.
I'm going to the Women's March here in Tallahassee since we've already had our trip for the year.
