(5,762 posts)When you think about it, every person is an atheist of one sort or another. We're atheists when it comes to Zeus (most of us, anyway), or other ancient gods whose names have either been forgotten or absorbed into the worship of other deities. Every time you say "this god and not that god," you're declaring a kind of atheism.
I ditched them all decades ago.

Please don't insult non-believers by making comparisons to him.

(151,269 posts)with each other. Atheism has nothing to do with politics. It is simply a non-belief in deities and the like.
There are plenty of atheists who are also awful, horrid people who pretend to have religious beliefs and court believers. Some are actually in the hierarchy of Christian denominations. Atheism isn't what you say. It is what you don't believe. One can be a hypocritical atheist who pretends to believe if it suits one's goals.
Atheism is simple. It is simply not believing. That has nothing to do with anything else.
Atheism is only that. It has nothing to do with anything else at all.

(901 posts)I feel about the same, though, as I knew the religious extremists would be attending and spewing their hypocrisy and blessing their evil emperor, basking in what they see as their god's hand in delivering tRump to the presidency.

(12,285 posts)I know these idiots don't welcome me but I also know that trump and family believe in a god about as much as I do. No one that narcissistic believes in a higher power than them.
Religion is nothing more than another tool for the fascist and dictator to control the masses.

There was an article in the paper here a few months back where the Catholic church was proposing more religious education in schools and the online comments were 9 to 1 "over my dead body".
Very refreshing and also sad that so many Americans either don't know or can't respect the founding principles of their country - separation of church and state.

(17,577 posts)First of all, I'm not one of 'those" Christians. I'm more the red letter type. I believe in, well you know, those pesky things like compassion, dignity, benevolence, helping the poor, etc.
Second, I'm a woman.
I feel completely alienated by my country. But the Resistance is growing, and that is my only hope.
