Mission & Vision

We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families - recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

OUR MISSION

The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us - immigrants of all statuses, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual assault - and our communities are hurting and scared. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.

We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all.

HEAR OUR VOICE.

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.
— Audre Lorde
GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Women’s rights are human rights, regardless of a woman’s race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual identity, gender expression, economic status, age or disability. We practice empathy with the intent to learn about the intersecting identities of each other. We will suspend our first judgement and do our best to lead without ego. We follow the principles of Kingian nonviolence, which are defined as follows:

Principle 1: Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people. It is a positive force confronting the forces of injustice and utilizes the righteous indignation and spiritual, emotional, and intellectual capabilities of people as the vital force for change and reconciliation.

Principle 2: The Beloved Community is the framework for the future. The nonviolent concept is an overall effort to achieve a reconciled world by raising the level of relationships among people to a height where justice prevails and persons attain their full human potential.

Principle 3: Attack forces of evil, not persons doing evil. The nonviolent approach helps one analyze the fundamental conditions, policies and practices of the conflict rather than reacting to one’s opponents or their personalities.

Principle 4: Accept suffering without retaliation for the sake of the cause to achieve our goal. Self-chosen suffering is redemptive and helps the movement grow in a spiritual as well as a humanitarian dimension. The moral authority of voluntary suffering for a goal communicates the concern to one’s own friends and community as well as to the opponent.

Principle 5: Avoid internal violence of the spirit as well as external physical violence. The nonviolent attitude permeates all aspects of the campaign. It provides a mirror type reflection of the reality of the condition to one’s opponent and the community at large. Specific activities must be designed to maintain a high level of spirit and morale during a nonviolent campaign.

And after ALL she endured...to see her name is NOT on the list...outrageous, unforgivable...an oversight? One helluva oversight. Another arrow to her heart. From women no less.

You may say I should overlook it...the organizers have their reasons...and maybe they do. Don't lecture.... I know what the march is about...you say against him...well, I would be marching FOR HER as well.

This is how the right wing wins. They put seeds of hatred in the party against their own people and people eat it up and give up and quit. That's why the rust belt stayed home rather than voting. That's why progressives like Russ Feingold lost. Because we stayed home and gave up because of all the hatred flung at our side by our side.

for the moment you can do as you wish. There is a much bigger picture here and the fight goes on and it must go on. We need good committed people such as yourself in the fight. Without us fighting we would be absolutely nowhere and back at square one. We have made progress but we must keep fighting for more and against injustice.

Maybe you should make a sign with your support for Hillary. This March is supposed to be about women's rights...not against Donald Trump...well yeah OK my sign says "Trump is Trash" and i have his head on top of Oscar the grouch's garbage can...for me it is 100% against him no matter what the organizers say.

I ordered a Hillary pin which never came but you can bet your bippy that if I had it I would be wearing it tomorrow. Who cares what people say or they don't...most people who voted voted for her PERIOD.

Hillary Clinton's Name Was Omitted From the Women's March Honoree List and People Are Angry

snip//

On Thursday, January 19, the movement released a document about its guiding vision and definition of principles, which included the names of 27 women who have "paved the way" for equal rights. Clinton, who was the first-ever female presidential nominee for a major political party, was not among them — and people took notice.

snip//

A petition on Change.org was created in light of the omission. "As activists and allies, we are dismayed that March organizers excluded Hillary Rodham Clinton as an honoree who has inspired women around the world to serve and to lead," the request reads.

Susan Brownell Anthony (February 15, 1820 – March 13, 1906) was an American social reformer and women's rights activist who played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement. Born into a Quaker family committed to social equality, she collected anti-slavery petitions at the age of 17. In 1856, she became the New York state agent for the American Anti-Slavery Society....

She is why protests are taking place. I'm sure it's not going to hurt her one bit to see women turning out representing themselves in DC whether her name is on the paperwork or not because that's what she is, her spirit is in all women and all people.

The March is bigger than any one individual woman - even Hillary Clinton. This sudden focus on an alleged slight plays into the Alt-Right (and their allies) playbook: get us fighting amongst each other so we forget to focus on the common - and real - enemy.

I'm planning to attend a local march tomorrow. I hope that everyone who planned to attend the march in DC does so.

We can move forward together or we can keep up the circular firing squad until the GOP sweeps 2018 too.

If I was in the States I'd be all up in that. Sure it was a shitty move but we have to resist attempts to divide, even if one of the organizers pulled a shitty move.

Wear every bit of Hillary paraphernalia you've got!

...there is no way this large crowd is going to agree on everything.

What they should be in solidarity with is the downfall of Trump and the advancement of issues related and vital to women. I'd guess those will be on full display.

I am going to show support for women, America, rights, and democracy (among other things). There will be others going for other reasons, and there will be some disrupters. Whatever the original intent of the organizer(s) was, it has become something much bigger than they ever believed possible. After today's inauguration it is important to show our strength in numbers against where we see this new administration taking our country. While I may not agree with every attendee on every issue, I can bet I am more in agreement with them than with those that cheered gleefully as they attended/watched today's inauguration ceremony and spectecal.

I am marching for women who have been discriminated against because of gender, for groups and organizations such as planned parenthood who have fought for women's rights, and for individual women, such as Hillary who have devoted their entire lives to women's rights.

An abundance of Hillary supporters, perhaps?

But NOOOOOOO, you single out one Bernie supporter and try to make it all about an intentional slight against Hillary,

Yea, that's it, this group of women, which just happens to include one of Hillary's campaign co-chairs, got together to slap you in the face.

This is a manufactured outrage.
