The tablet the statue holds just has "July 4 1776" (the 1776 in Roman numerals) on it.

But 3 of my grandparents came through there.

In Trump's mind, that old green statue will never be as beloved as his favorite building in New York City, the classical structure at 1 Bowling Green on the southern tip of Manhattan - which is better known as the US Bankruptcy Court.

words were on the base of the statue. Maybe they were on a plaque which became fragile and was brought inside? I don't remember any museum on the island, which used to be called Bedloe's Island.

If this was an attempt at sarcasm - please put in the tag so people don't take this at face value.

If this is fake news - please do not add to the disinformation out there.
