Trump just flunked my social studies/history class..

Was in the car listening to NPR. They ran a sound bite on Trump announcing that the US would build a wall to keep out immigrants. Trump said that ( I paraphrase) that no "nation" can be a nation without secure borders.

Well one of the first things my kids are taught is the difference between a nation and a state. The difference is that a state has borders and a nation does not.

Think the nation of Islam, which is throughout the world. For football fans Steeler nation again throughout the world. A state like Germany, the US, England, etc. all have borders.

I knew he was a fuck up, but he knows less than the high school kids I used to teach.

My niece is living in Perth Australia. Her future brother-in-law, originally from Liverpool England is a Steelers fan. She has found a Steelers bar, that when football is over switches to a Penguins bar.

But whenever we hear Trump talk, it's obvious that he knows less that we learned in ninth grade. What kind of education did this guy have?? Isn't that kind of important for the job he has?? And he follows a constitutional scholar...

Inner city schools you can read that to be 95-98% African American.

The Pledge was recited daily a lot of my kids wouldn't stand. I pick my battles, and just turned their not wanting to stand into a lesson, discussion & debate

That I never said one nation under god. I explained why I didn't a little something to do with the separation of church and state, etc.

As to the republic many a discussion as to the reality of this country and the ideals it strives to achieve

11. All seems a bit of a stretch to help promote "nation" as not being synonymous with country, but ok.
