(26,060 posts)Everyone on twitter should do the same. These people need our support because the degenerate is going to come down like a ton of bricks on them.

(26,060 posts)And I very rarely tweet - half a dozen times if that but I do follow and retweet. If for no other reason, there is some really funny stuff there and I laugh out loud at least once a day at the brilliant cleverness of fellow liberals. It's worth it just for that.

(7,768 posts)I'd really like to support these agencies that are being silenced. This is beyond frightening.
Are there any precautions I should think about in setting up an account? How much information about myself am I required to reveal? Do you use your real name and address?
Thanks for any help!

(39,744 posts)the rest is up to you (from what I remember).
My Twitter account did get hacked years ago. The hacker posted one tweet about weight loss.

(7,768 posts)I don't want to be stalked by weirdos either.
Can you remove offensive tweets that trolls might put on your account?

(39,744 posts)Once you create an account, got directly to the privacy page to view your options.
I basically only use mine to follow others. It makes for a great news feed.
I think there are more options regarding keeping your password safe than there were when I joined.

(26,060 posts)I think an email is all that is required (I honestly don't remember but I'm loathe to give out any personal info on the internet so I think I would have remembered that). I very rarely tweet - usually just in response to something interesting (saying good read or something simple like that). I do retweet and follow around 120 accounts. As I said above, there are some very funny people out there on our side and it's worth it just for the at least one laugh a day I get. You can always deactivate your account if you find it's not for you. Pick a screen name and an avatar (I use one of my very beautiful cats) and you're off. Feel free to privately DU mail me if you think I can help.

(26,060 posts)If you want to follow me (and really, all I do is retweet but it's some pretty either funny or informative stuff), I'm (((sundance1220))). One recommendation - keep an eye on who is following you and don't automatically follow them back - it's easy to do, just keep an eye on the "notification" tab which is right on the top of the screen. It lists anyone who follows you. I recently found someone I'm pretty sure is a russian hooker or something and think they try and do that to all liberals who, by not really thinking it out, follow back anyone who follows them. I not only don't follow back, I block them from following me. If you're proactive about stuff like that, you can't run into trouble. Have fun!!!

(7,768 posts)I've started reading just three twitter accounts so far: Malcolm Nance, Sam Stein and David Corn. Pretty informative so far! I'm going to read (follow) Joy Reid now too.

(26,060 posts)and Chris Hayes, Bill Maher, CNN, BBC, The Guardian - a lot of straight news sources which are great for breaking news and then I look at different topics and suggestions are made about people to follow - take a look at their profiles and see if you're interested. I started slow but have to admit I didn't expect to enjoy twitter as much as I do. Don't bother following trump - if he says something worth seeing, someone you follow will undoubtedly retweet it. I also follow conservative voices that came out from the beginning against the degenerate and haven't wavered (Anna Navarro and Jennifer Rubin for example).

(39,744 posts)1) If you followed someone you like, click on the tab to see who they are following. This helps expand your list of those with similar interests/viewpoints.
2) If someone (famous/well-known) has a check by their name, it means that the account has been verified (i.e. it is actually them). There are many 'fake' accounts out there!

(26,060 posts)and white nationalists. They were using ((())) around someone's name to identify them as Jewish. Many, many of us decided to just save them the trouble and throw it into their pathetic faces. Sundance is one of my cats, Butch is the one in my avatar (so both are included in my twitter life). I will definitely follow you back. Hope you have a wonderful experience.
