Meet the new FCC chairmen, harbinger of doom for net neutrality.
-- Mashable, 1/25/2017
President Donald Trump has chosen one of net neutralitys harshest critics to head the FCC. Ajit Pai, a Republican FCC commissioner since 2012, once said hed take a weed whacker to FCC rules, which include net neutrality.
As head of the FCC, Pai could whack net neutrality protections right out of existence.
Net neutrality could be in very big danger. Are you ready to step up and fight to protect it? Add your name >>
Lets go over the basics.
Net neutrality is a principle that says all content on the internet should be treated the same by service providers. Content from big corporations should be available to you in the same way as content from a blog, or a little mom-and-pop store.
Protecting net neutrality basically means protecting the internet the way it was meant to be -- free, open, and equal. Big corporations cant pay providers to deliver their content faster. You have access without worrying about internet providers blocking or prioritizing anything.
Its good for consumers. Its good for innovation. Its just plain good. And two years ago, we scored a big victory when the FCC passed strong rules to safeguard net neutrality.
We thought the fight was over. We'd won a huge victory. But now President Trump is putting that victory at risk.
If the new FCC chair thinks hes going to weed-whack net neutrality, Im going to be there to tangle his line. And Im hoping I can still count on you to stand by me.
