He will have to choose between following his orders or protecting the constitution.

but having been in the military, "where are you from?" is a pretty common question that has nothing to do with how one looks.

My point is that asking someone in the military "Where are you from?" is very, very common, and rarely, if ever, has anything to do with how they look.

that she meant something along the lines of he must be from another country if he is not white, even though he is in the military. Probably meant what state, city, that kind of thing.

at the military ball in 2009. Always a Commander in some part of the US Military has orders for pone of their young male members to dance with the First Lady. I would bet my entire house and cats that Mrs. Obama asked "so where are you from?" The delicious irony here is that some Army colonel was alert enough and had enough snark in his /her bones to send an Hispanic officer.

In front of the president. I wanted to know if he was thinking don't step on her feet don't step on her feet. Ballroom dancing doesn't seem Like something that Marines usually take classes in.

it's such a common question to ask someone when you meet. I probably would ask the exact same question, whether white brown black accent or not, so don't see anything racist or xenophobic in it at all.
