(30,481 posts)The liberal version of the Kock brothers is the people. Lets step up. Find a race and donate. Find quality PAC's that run commercials in close local districts and donate. Time. Money.

(14,400 posts)That shit isn't going away and the only way we'll be able to beat it is to make sure everyone that can vote gets an approved ID.
It may take renting buses and driving all kinds of people to Government offices but I think it's the only thing that's going to let us take back a lot of the States we've lost since 2010.

(13,081 posts)Which identifies the closest swing district. Mine, for instance, is Democratic, but only won by 1.6%. Defending that will be my congressional effort in 2018

(4,873 posts)I just signed up for a swing district near me

(4,492 posts)But the best course of action would be to donate to them (they will occasionally run ads in the offseason targeting congresscritters) or your state party.

(520 posts)and intend to volunteer and donate more to local races

(16,858 posts)Sad though that I didn't see Dianne Black on that list. She holds the seat that used to be occupied by Bart Gordon, a decent and practical democrat. It is my home district and where I was raised. I often wonder about running against her to retake the district.

(4,492 posts)Make sure all your municipal and school board races have Dems running. If they're vacant, consider putting your name on the ballot.

(8,998 posts)I can manage that.
Expect they will try to stop this but as long as you meet the requirements it will be hard for them to refuse.

(31,818 posts)We are harassing the fuck out of Leonard Lance - like a full court press assault on him. We are just going to have to keep it up.
Trekologer
(997 posts)Hopefully we can keep tenderizing him leading up to 2018. I think repeal and run is going to play a big role.

(31,818 posts)Action and Forward. We also have several Indivisible groups to organize and call/protest Lance. Every Wednesday 4:30 to 7 go to one of his offices - we are there.

(4,492 posts)Open seats are usually easier targets than incumbents are.

(368 posts)Hopefully they find someone better to run than Emily Cain. She sucks.

(4,492 posts)I come from 8 generations from that district. My last direct relative (grandmother) there passed away in September, but I still love going up there.

(368 posts)Blue Dog Mike Michaud represented the district for a while. The fact that he worked at a paper mill for years and was seen as an every day, down-to earth kind of guy really worked in his favor and allowed Dems to hold onto the seat. Unfortunately, status quo uninspiring Emily Cain has run for the seat the last two times and lost. A blue collar person, a veteran... some sort of "outsider" would be ideal.

(4,492 posts)I've been a campaign staffer in 8 states (10 if you count volunteer) and I'm always following the horserace of downticket races (looking for my next one).
elections.dailykos.com is another good resource. The comments there are actually helpful and intelligent.

(368 posts)Thank you for your offer of help as well! I'll probably take you up on it down the road. As a whole, I do wish this website would channel a lot of our energy into organization/activism mode though. We really need to hit the ground running.
crazycatlady
(4,492 posts)I wish that for every post bitching about how X Democrat isn't progressive enough or how Nancy Pelosi has no spine, etc that the poster would make just 10 phone calls on behalf of a local candidate of their choice. If not phone calls, then donate $10 to a candidate of their choice. Clictivism doesn't work, online petitions only exist for data mining. Phone calls, door knocking, etc works.
I'm channeling my anger into action.
