(55,894 posts)I think DU, its Administrators and posters need to accept that and refuse to allow lobbying for it the same way we can't push for overturning Roe v Wade or allowing gay marriage.

(8,865 posts)I know nothing of it and it's a big topic here in Washington.
I have no desire to live in Trump's Ayn Rand/dominionist dystopian hellscape.
Right now this cult holds the executive and legislative branches of federal government, about to hold a majority of seats on SC, majority of governorships and a majority of state legislatures. Not to mention a vast and twisted knot of gerrymandered voting districts and voter suppression laws in their favor.
We are at a tipping point to either cut our loses and walk away from a union that doesn't want us (those majority of Democratic votes in last were mostly in CA,WA, OR, some in NY) or continue to fight for even former blue states that don't want us like PA or MI.

(8,865 posts)It won't matter. As an economic block, CA, WA, OR and HI represent roughly 20% of the nation's economic output and an even more significant amount of its agricultural output. Pacific coast states are roughly 20% of US population.
The new union of pacific states would become the 5th largest economy in the world with the highest agricultural and technological output in the world.
Admittedly, the impact to the remaining US would be unfortunate, especially for the republican "taker" states in the South like Mississippi or Alabama, that take far more in federal dollars than they contribute (vast majority of people on food stamps are white despite the memes).
I am very confident that if people ever get their heads out of their ass that reunification would be possible.

(35,522 posts)Each side uses it to defend what they want locally when they don't like the federal government.
Don't like '70's style speed limits or federal LGBT regs? States rights!!!
Don't like fed pot laws or immigration policy? States rights!
Remove the hypocrisy and then it's possible to talk. Otherwise we all just self-righteously scream at other Americans.

(92,748 posts)I was responding to a post that California should lead instead of exiting
California already said it would fight the draconian Muslim immigration ban, the anti-environmental agenda etc., but there is no doubt in my mind that these thugs that now control the government, who were big proponents of "states rights", will now forgot that.
My post was merely pointing out their hypocrisy
As for hypocrisy, there is no comparison between the two. It is a double standard. The Democrats are held to a higher standard than the republicans, and the republicans are held to no standard

(151 posts)I am so ready to leave Rump's America. As an old timer I want to see what it would be like to live in a true blue controlled collection of states before I die. Red states can keep their guns and their religious faith, charter schools, right to work laws and all the other corporate baloney. A better world is out there, we need to seize it.
