Mexican Senator to Introduce a Bill to Stop Buying US Corn.

Mexico is ready to hit the U.S. where it hurts: Corn.

Mexico is one of the top buyers of American corn in the world today. And Mexican senator Armando Rios Piter, who leads a congressional committee on foreign relations, says he will introduce a bill this week where Mexico will buy corn from Brazil and Argentina instead of the United States.

It's one of the first signs of potential concrete action from Mexico in response to President Trump's threats against the country.

"I'm going to send a bill for the corn that we are buying in the Midwest and...change to Brazil or Argentina," Rios Piter, 43, told told CNN's Leyla Santiago on Sunday at an anti-Trump protest in Mexico City.

They loved Trump to death in Iowa.

Mexico is one of the world's largest importers of US corn. Corn purchases by Mexico are about $2.4 billion dollars.

It was my understanding that NAFTA caused Mexican corn farmers and their workers to go broke, because they couldn't compete with our US government subsidized corn.

Maybe we can save money on the subsidies, and we'll just turn the rest of it to ethanol.

The biggest 3 corn producing states selling to Mexico. I think Illinois might be 4th.

OK so have fun with those discussions Trump. Those GOP Reps, Governors, and Senators will be thrilled.

14. a trade war with Mexico will straight fuck up the Texas economy on nearly all fronts

And I doubt people are too keen to fuck up beautiful Texas park lands with a stupid, pointless wall.

And yet somehow the state votes Republican. I don't get it.

I'm convinced that, especially with the changing demographics, Texas will turn blue if we get out the vote--look at how the results came in for Central and Southern Texas...I think if all the non-white/non-Southern Baptist/fundamentalist Xtian voters actually got out and voted, it would have happened already. I think getting a strong enough voter turnout would overcome even the ridiculous gerrymandering...

We turn TX blue, that's pretty much it for Republicans as far as national elections are concerned.

12. A bit of corporate welfare will fix it.

The Republican controlled congress will simply increase the corporate welfare, i.e. corn "subsidies," to the affected red states. No muss, no fuss.

Yes, I've become cynical in my old age.

13. So the farmer with the 10 ft wide "TRUMP" sign down the road is about to be cornholed?

As are my RW farmer uncles?

Couldn't happen to better people. My sick dream is to see another farm crisis crash land prices and buy up the 30 acres of farmland behind my house to plant my own prairie/oak savanna restoration and permaculture refuge.
