If so, you can format the memory card that way.

You can also buy a card reader that plugs into your computer via USB.

Most SD cards come pre-formatted FAT32, which is what the phone needs it to be.

The SD card you are adding is for increasing the internal storage of the "disk".
The SD card is where you can put your photos, music, videos, and documents so that you have more room for apps on the internal storage.
The apps need to stay on the internal storage.

I don't know if you must have the memory available all the time, but it might be a more cost effective option if you plan on storing a lot of pictures and videos. You could have two or three external storage devices for different file types. In other words, if it were me, I would just wait until you see how much storage you will really need and then think about how you want to handle it.

Cards are getting cheaper and cheaper. Get the biggest card you can afford. Especially if you take lots of pics and video, or have lots of music.

I would get at least a 64 or 128 GB card. 200GB,. If you can afford it.

I have a 128GB on my phone. It has 6500 songs on it, plus some videos. I plan on buying a 200GB soon.

Easier sooner so you can start out keeping apps and music and such on the card right away. If you wait until you are low on internal memory you will need to transfer things over (or have a tech do it).

It looks like the Galaxy Sky has 16GB of internal memory, which is not bad. Depending on what you use it for you may not need more memory for a while.

That said, if you shop around memory is pretty cheap. I won't link here but on ebay you can find a 128GB card for ~$35.00.

If you are sure you want more memory you may as well do it sooner rather than later. If you think the 16GB is enough you may not want to spend the money. I wish I had a definitive answer for you but it is a judgement call.

That you shouldn't buy anything larger than a 128GB chip. That is a pretty good amount of memory and your phone won't be able to use a larger chip anyways.

Expandable Memory

With 16GB¹ of built-in memory, you can store more than 5,000 photos or 2,500 songs² directly on your device. Get up to an additional 128GB of memory with a microSD™ card³ so you can you can enjoy more of your favorite music, photos and games on the go.

And since you responded I will post a link to a seller on Ebay. Please keep in mind this is just an example and that I in no way suggest buying any particular product nor do I promote this seller in any way shape or form (end disclaimer).

Ok, that's absolutely not a fact. Don't do it.

But you can add a card whenever you like. Just be aware that removing the previous card will remove whatever was stored on it, too.

(old model, I know)

I got a micro SD card for Christmas this year (I got the phone 3 years ago) and had no problems adding it.

ETA I moved quite a few apps onto my card and have no problems so far.
