I just hope she doesn't decide to ditch her delicious recipes in favor of some flavorless "healthy" gruel.

(29,647 posts)good for her, and the rest of the nation too. If her fans can follow along with her "new" way of cooking, then I say good for all of us.

I don't eat Sara Lee cheesecake every night, but I will get one every so often...last one was about 4 months ago.
Now quit with the food snobbery.

(154,021 posts)and my cooking is not flavorless... but the amount of fat she uses is all but healthy, except for a treat.
I mean I make a mac and cheese that is absolutely to die for... a once to twice a year treat though.
Healthy fare is NOT flavorless if you know what you are doing with the food, serious.

With that said, a lot of healthy food, even average food, can be good. The problem with Deen is that she overindulged way too much and you can't do that. Fried chicken? Not bad - if you do it once every few months. Growing up, we had home cooked meals that weren't gruel - but they weren't junk, either. You can always have a healthy balance.
The big issue is wealth. It's far cheaper to buy cheap food than it is to buy good, healthy food. It's why we have an obesity problem in this country.
I'm reminded of a Roseanne episode from years and years ago where Roseanne is shopping and says something like:
"Cheaper than fast food, faster than cheap food - and that's what I call home economics."

One way to make really tasty food is to use plenty of fresh herbs.
I mean I also make a gluten free pizza every so often. I make my own marinara... with plenty of fresh herbs.
The fat content comes from a good quality cheese.
It amazes me that some folks confuse fatty food (which is really tasty... fat IS tasty), with healthy and leaner food.
Healthy can be lean and good for you... but it takes knowing what you are doing in the kitchen.
One hidden blessing from being gluten allergic and diabetic is that I have had to LEARN HOW TO COOK. Going out can be hazardous for my health, literally.
