Please. Just stop.

During the 2016 campaign we always thought Trump was just one outrageous tweet or bad news conference away from dropping out the the race. If he did not drop out, surely GOP leaders would not allow such a loonatic to win the Republican nomination. When he did win the Republican nomination, we turned our confidence to the American voters and said, "We got this. WE GOT THIS!" Hillary Clinton was going to win in a landslide, and those who worried about a President Trump were often dismissed as concern trolls.

It turned out that we did not got this. Even with the FBI and Russian influence, Trump won a frightening amount of votes. The Electoral College voted in his favor. The Congress approved the votes of the EC. One emergency stop after another failed.

Now we are seeing a repeat of the whole campaign process. There are countless news reports citing anonymous sources that detail the Trump administration is on its last breath. Once again, just another outrageous tweet or bad news conference should see the end of President Trump. A few are even so optimistic that they think impeaching Trump would magically remove his entire administration and cabinet and see Hillary Clinton sworn in as President the next day.

Of course I understand the motivation. When we are faced with a dangerous situation, it is only natural to tell ourselves everything will be alright. We are only overreacting, right? Let's not worry. We got this. WE GOT THIS!

So I hate to come across as a party pooper. Or as a concern troll. Neither the Kremlin nor anyone else is paying me to post this. But while I generally admire optimism, I also think we please need to stop this wild speculation. It is a waste of time, energy, and happy vibes. Instead, we need to face the reality..

..that yes, we will face a Trump administration for at least the next four years. If Trump is not leading it, certainly Pence will, and while he might not be as unpredictable, he is nevertheless far more socially conservative than Trump. Regardless the next four years will not have much happiness for us.

Yet the better we understand this, the better equipped we will be to fight.

How many people thought it was possible to have a "do over"? Or at least if Trump was removed from office, then the runner-up in the EC would become President.

People here were being asked to sign to get the SC to nullify the election since we were "cyber-invaded".

We are all desperate to hope that we can get rid of him before the permanent damage is done. It is wearing us all out. We have hopes raised, they are dashed. It is wearing people out so I understand and look over what I don't like myself.

very few calling for an actual do-over (not zero, but very few), but quite a number hoping that some electors would switch to hillary or even that the republicans in congress would for some reason invalidate enough donnie votes and make hillary president.

a straw man argument among the people who are pretty familiar with the technical mechanics of the electoral college, but not at all a straw man across all of du.

I am saying we need to stop thinking this will magically correct itself in the near future. The more hope we have in that sense, the more complacent we risk becoming.

On the other hand, once we truly understand the seriousness of the threat, the better our chances of overcoming it.

Obviously I am not talking about all Democrats. Many saw the signs a long time ago. But then there are the ones who still think the courts can order a "do over" or magically install Hillary Clinton as the next President..

the o.p. called for fighting.

it did not call for us to sit down and shut up.

by all means, we should continue to investigate donnie and the corruption and the russia connections and the lies and expose the horrendous agenda, etc.

what it did call for is for us to stop pinning all our hopes on donnie not serving out his term for one reason or another. aside from pushing back on donnie's offensive actions, our main goal should be winning back one or if possible, both houses in 2018, and positioning ourselves to recapture the white house in 2020.

calling for sobriety doesn't mean sit down and shut up.
in fact, sobriety tends to add credibility to the criticisms.

IMHO....
If we do not successfully remove the current administration (45 Pence Bannon miller Priebus etc) within the next 6 months then there will be no future opportunity to fight...
no true 2020 democratic election to win ....
as martial law will successfully eliminate any perceived resistance...
free speech will be a chargeable offense and media will be run by the state ....
it will all be marketed as the new improved standard of loyal evangelical American patriotism -- like it or not....

i suppose i can't say it's completely impossible, but the chances of him leaving in the next 6 months are tinier than his hands.

he won't leave of his own accord, his fragile ego won't permit it.

republicans won't impeach; and even if they did, they certainly wouldn't remove. why? because they're not statesmen who care about the country, they're selfish partisans who only care about their own re-election, and they're not going to piss off the many, many donnie voters in their own district or state.

as for the "no true 2020 democratic election", this has little to do with the white house and congress -- it's state laws we need to worry about here. gerrymandering, who the secretary of state is each state, how the votes are counted, ease of voting, voter id laws, disenfranchisement laws, etc.

for the most part donnie has very little to do with all that, not that pence would help our cause regardless.

What do you imagine everyone will do after reading your post? This is a political site. Obviously the people on this site post about politics. Mon Feb 20, 2017, 12:48 AM

And we need hope. Most of us are waging battles daily, and we need to look forward to victories as we fight this war. You may be saying don't get our hopes up, but our morale is high even as it is low. We are angry, outraged, scared and determined to take back our country; we have risen and more are rising to fight for our rights.
Perhaps you meant to encourage us to remain vigilant and not to.be lulled into false sense of security or victory if we get rid of 45.we know this and there have been discussions on whether pence would be worse. We are all waiting to see the shoes fall and dropkick them in the head.then we will rejoice and move on to the next battle. It Is draining, and we all need to.take a break from it sometimes. Maybe you need a break. Then come back stronger and ready to do battle!

reshaped the race.

Actually, the FBI's first intervention in July was the only reason the race wasn't going to be a total blowout of 15 points. Ditto for the lies coming out of the State Department Inspector General's Office.

Trump failed to win a majority of the voters over to his agenda, or even come close. The election was rigged.
