A web-based ad, shot by Austin film director Richard Linklater, uses humor to attack arguments that the transgender bathroom bill is needed to protect privacy.

The digital ad, which will appear in targeted buys on Facebook, includes a diverse cast — including two transgender Texans — to argue that Senate Bill 6 is about discrimination, not privacy.

“You’ve got to roll up your sleeves, pull down your pants, and pee with LGBT,” a man says, followed by a woman who says: “You’ve got to take a seat to make a stand.”

The ad concludes with a plea to contact lawmakers to voice opposition to SB 6, which would prohibit public schools and government buildings from enacting policies that allow transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity. The bill also would overturn city and county ordinances that require transgender-friendly bathrooms.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has made SB 6 a priority, saying it is needed to counter policies that allow men into women’s bathrooms and girls’ locker rooms while providing a pretext for sexual predators to enter opposite-sex bathrooms.

But the digital ad argues that SB 6 “discriminates against family and friends,” threatens businesses and puts Texas at risk of an economic backlash similar to what is happening in North Carolina, which enacted a transgender bathroom bill last year.

“Everybody pees, and everybody deserves a safe place to,” the ad says.

Will there be genitalia police? I don't think I would be able to pick out a trans woman in the restroom. We do use stalls after all. It's all so mindlessly stupid.
