The posts were of a casual nature, ordinary chat/posting to friends with no mention of an accident, hospitalization, helicopter airlift, family emergency, etc. The OP has acknowledged that the FB page and the gofundme recipient are one and the same but denied the facebook posts, after making them private.

Despite claiming to be the brother of the poster and unfamiliar with DU formats, rules and with how to post on DU; this OP has posted this identical thread in many locations on DU including Editorials & Articles, The Lounge, a locked thread on LBN where they formatted it to look like it was in compliance with LBN rules, with a "SOURCE: DAYTON DAILY NEWS" title, General Discussion, and Community Help? Even I didn't realize that forum existed.

The poster has been asked about the Facebook posts, how "Corey" was casually posting on his FB while near death but will not answer.

The poster has been asked for a link to their own Facebook but will not answer.

The poster has been asked what day, time and location this accident supposedly happened but will not answer.

The poster has been asked what hospital the gofundme recipient is in, but will not answer.

I can't imagine the stress. I lost two cousins last summer by drugged and drunk drivers in less than 2 weeks in July. One was in his 60s and the other in their 20s. I'm so sorry. I hope your brother survives. I'm not a praying type but I hope he survives and you all can be together again soon.

The poster has had a couple of different gofundme links and has started a number of threads in different places. Zero evidence supporting his sob story has been provided.

I actually saw a story from the Ohio area with the same type of accident that was described by this person-- There was a guy that was sent via the life flight helicopter-- only thing was the person's name wasn't Corey Baker. What's the number for the helicopter that transports the victims across Ohio? They would have a log of the accidents they are involved with.

The story doesn't make sense (the closest trauma center is 6 hours away?), I can find no record of any such DUI accident with serious injuries Saturday night in the Dayton area, and the real Corey was on Facebook last night. 73. Andy Stephenson was verified. There were people who knew him and were directly involved IIRC.

He was the victim of an organized harassment campaign by freepers who, I believe, managed to temporarily get his Paypal account shut down, delaying his treatment.

It was basically the action of an internet mob, acting out of viciousness, against a political enemy, when they knew that it was not actually a scam.

This is people asking legitimate questions and pointing out legitimate discrepancies. Totally different kind of situation.

You may be okay with giving money to scams, but not everyone can afford it, and it it happens enough, people in general will start to become jaded, and it will ultimately harm people who genuinely need help.

If the situation is what the poster says it is, it is incumbent upon them to provide some manner of verification.

Unless and until that happens, we need to look out for each other here. If you are worried about people getting hurt, extend that sentiment to those here in your DU community who would give even when they should not, because they were emotionally manipulated by a lie.
