If Dems boycott, the Republicans will pack the chamber with fawning sycophants who will stand and cheer at every grotesque thing he says, which will give the impression that everyone in Congress (Dems included) support him. We need to avoid that at all costs.

Dems need to attend and then sit quietly for the duration or boo when appropriate. Show the American public that there is strong opposition to his destructive policies. Give him no quarter whatsoever. Turning their backs on him during his speech is also an option.
