Lawrence O'Donnell picked up on something I missed...
.. having to do with dress and fashion.
Trump is obsessed with personal appearance, was annoyed by Sean Spicer's* suit, even John Bolton's moustache was too intolerable for him, yet Steve Bannon, his closest advisor, looks like a bum. What you wear speaks volumes, whether you dress to impress or dress to offend - even if you dress without a care. Trump's rules of attire don't apply to Bannon and the message he's sending is: Trump has no power over me.

He keeps using words and phrases which ... well ...
![]() He apparently thinks "deconstruction" means a literal "tearing down". It does not. de·con·struc·tion
ˌdēkənˈstrəkSHən/ noun noun: deconstruction a method of critical analysis of philosophical and literary language that emphasizes the internal workings of language and conceptual systems, the relational quality of meaning, and the assumptions implicit in forms of expression. And "church militant" does not refer to a person (Bannon made a reference to his followers as "church militants". ![]() They may have tried to educate him at Harvard, but he seems to have deflected their efforts rather effectively. Did he reference the Hare PCL-R? I ask because I am convinced that whatever else is wrong with that man, he has got to score highly as a psychopath. It would take a lot for someone to talk me down from this position. There is only one item on the check list that I think doesn't seem to apply. Everything else positively screams Donald.

33. Dress is the informal power structure...
...sitting in a B2B selling seminar several years ago. Consultant is talking about his time as a B2B selling guy...and he's got a pretty well documented history of doing it well...he starts talking about the "know your real customer" rule. Figuring out who in the room was the real power in the decision making process. His golden rule - if everyone is wearing "the uniform", the guy who isn't is the guy in charge. If the uniform is surfing shirts and shorts - the guy with the button down is in charge. If the uniform is suits and ties, the guy in with no tie and a sports coat is in charge. His point - it ain't perfect but in his experience, it was a 90-95% that the guy out of uniform was the one guy who didn't have to wear it. Lawrence is spot on with this one. |
