Voters support 54 - 38 percent "renegotiating major trade deals with other countries, even if it means paying more for the products you buy" and support 87 - 10 percent increasing federal spending for roads, mass transit and other infrastructure, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh- pe-ack) University Poll finds.
But American voters oppose other measures:
62 - 31 percent against reducing taxes across the board, even if it increases the deficit;
51 - 38 percent against restarting the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines;
60 - 37 percent against building the wall on the Mexican border, with 65 - 33 percent against the wall if the U.S. must pay for it;
76 - 18 percent against lowering taxes on the wealthy;
50 - 43 percent against lowering taxes on businesses and corporations;
54 - 34 percent against removing regulations on businesses and corporations;
63 - 27 percent against removing specific regulations intended to combat climate change;
54 - 43 percent against repealing the Affordable Care Act.

(7,627 posts)Where do they think they're going to get insurance from?
If is is entirely repealed, even those who get their health insurance at work will no doubt see their co-pays and user premium contributions increase.
Most Americans have no idea how insurance works I guess.

(11,141 posts)That was a pretty stupid question wasn't it?
If Congress doesn't make Health Insurance better like Trumpy promised (not just cheaper for crappy coverage) they should get tossed out in 2018.
If the folks still haven't finally learned their lesson at that point, I'm seriously thinking of leaving the country. Maybe I'll move to Cali first.

(64,995 posts)"62 - 31 percent against reducing taxes across the board, even if it increases the deficit;"
The "even if it increases the deficit" is an odd phrase. Reducing taxes across the board will do nothing BUT increase the deficit. So, it that the reason 62% are against it? Or, is it because some people actually believe that taking in less money will make the deficit go down?

(171 posts)A more logical phrasing would be " ...
against reducing tax rates if such a move would increase the deficit."

(10,901 posts)49. Do you support or oppose reducing taxes across the board, even if it means increasing the deficit?
31% support, 62% oppose
which is still awkwardly worded.
(the subdemographic breakdowns are interesting as always)

(11,141 posts)It's just poor diction. I think they're saying the majority doesn't support tax cuts across the board regardless if that increases the deficit or not.

(259 posts)If the Republicans (their team) tells them that everyone's salaries needs to be reduced to fight terrorism and immigration, even if every study or report says otherwise, they would happily agree with it - especially if the Democrats were against it.

(34,373 posts)I know that only 6% (Who ARE those 6%?) of Democrats approve, but even with that disparity, those numbers still don't make sense.

(21,596 posts)The 50% that do are split between the Republicans and the Democrats with some voting Green or Libertarian.
So, combined with nationwide Republican gerrymandering, less than 25% of the voting age citizens elect and reelect the GOP candidates and incumbents.

(42,302 posts)We should be putting our efforts toward getting people to vote - not trying to change the minds of these unredeemables.

(21,596 posts)We need to reach out to the non-voters and figure out how to motivate them to vote.
We have an almost impossible task because of the Republican anti-voting rights agenda.
They demonize Democratic community organizers & Democratic/liberal GOTV programs. They have passed voter ID laws and made it almost impossible to get IDs, not to mention, the removal of federal voting rights protections in the Southern states.
