Perhaps Russia will underwrite a "liberal" pro-Trump, anti-Democratic Party news channel feature Ed Schultz, Jill Stein, Glenn Greenwald and Cornell West with special guest appearances by Susan Sarandon.

It wasn't long ago that Ed Schultz was lashing out at Republicans every night as a firebrand progressive on MSNBC.
On Thursday, he will participate in a panel on trade at the Conservative Political Action Conference -- a gathering he once compared to Nazi Germany.
Schultz, now a host for the Russian-backed media outlet RT, didn't understand why that's confusing.

On a December broadcast of his program on RT, Schultz said derisively that allegations of Russian hacking during the American election had become "a lifeline for Clinton supporters in an effort to reverse the outcome of the election." The story, he said, "has entered the arena of the outrageous." And last month, Schultz said he was encouraged that Trump had opened the door toward a "a positive relationship" with Russia.

(79,144 posts)listen to him but he was listened to by lot of folks I knew. Was surprised when folks keep telling me he switched parties --to be a Democrat--and now his radio show reflected that. That was around maybe 2000 or so.

(58,785 posts)Extremists on both the right and left have a lot more in common with each other than with others, not at all on far ends of a spectrum.
It's not uncommon for many to shift left-right/right-left as dissatisfaction with their current official "side" makes it attractive. Last century, Europe's communists and fascists were actively trying to woo each other's people. That's why the extreme-right National German Workers Party added "Socialist" to its name--a cynical deceit to help draw from the far left.
It's also why the Kochs think they can split off a bunch from the left to join the right, which they are actively trying to do by their own admission. To read some of the coverage about the new, kinder, gentler version of Charles Koch, he seems almost...liberal. But a strong, authoritarian liberal. Did I mention that most in both groups need the certitude authoritarian leaders sell?

(3,887 posts)the best way to pad the Schultz bank account. Offer him the right deal and he will be a "true believer" in whatever you wish.

(2,247 posts)Ed Schultz doesn't care about CPAC, or RT, or conservatives, or liberals, or you, or me, or America.
But for the right price, he can do a really good job of pretending to, and sound good doing it.

(58,785 posts)of some to be permanently angry and frustrated with those who do not share their opinions about what is so obvious to them shouldn't be underestimated.
Corruption is the usual way some explain the otherwise "unexplainable" to them squishiness of more mainstream politicians. In fact, outrage at democratic cooperation, aka "corruption," between people with differing ideologies is a major clue to where people may be coming from.

(42,025 posts)I remember years ago, when Air America was on the air, Randi Rhodes going off on a major rant about Schultz being a jerk and a phony. She basically said he would walk over his mother if someone gave him $5.00.

I'm close to Ed's age. It's hard to close the book on a career, especially one that is ending ignobly.
