* Longtime Ferrari salesman Robert 'Bud' Root has sued Ferrari dealership in Palm Beach of firing him after he found out about 'The Deis Tester'
* It is a device that can roll back the digital odometers on Ferraris
* Root says the practice can only occur if Ferrari headquarters green-lights it electronically
* It allows regular well-heeled owners to resell their cars at higher prices
* Ferrari corporate is named in the lawsuit since the odometer device cannot function without the blessing of Ferrari in Italy, Root says
* Tampering with an odometer to change the mileage or selling/utilizing an odometer altering device is a felony in Florida and many other states
* In his suit Root names one of his high profile clients, retired Sara Lee foods manufacturer CEO C. Steven McMillan, for allegedly paying for the procedure
* The shocking accusations were included in Root's age discrimination lawsuit in a Palm Beach County circuit court in November, then transferred last month to the federal district court
* Root claims Ferrari of Palm Beach managers are engaged in a conspiracy with buyers to avoid paying state sales taxes, which can reach $100,000-plus
Wow! Just Wow! If this is true, it could blow the whole Ferrari resale market to pieces.
Multiple felonies are being claimed, including odometer, fraud, tax dodging, etc.

(6,931 posts)The lowly criminal doing it on some 30k car can go to jail, all these rich Ferrari owners and that dealership can just move along--no charges coming your way.

(82,849 posts)Any word on whether there will be a criminal investigation by the State of Florida? Surely someone who overpaid for his Ferrari is well-heeled enough to have the Governor's or the Attorney General's ear on this. Unless it's just too embarrassing for someone in his class to admit that he bought his Ferrari used.

(13,907 posts)Like Dieselgate.. "Hey how did they get such good fuel milage AND make it fast?".. lets buy one and see..
Rollbacks are common. There was a story floating around about a guy who bought a low mileage Honda. When he went to get service at the dealer they found out the odometer and the miles on the transmission computer were different.. OOPS.. The car was purchased from an out of state Honda dealer..
They hate it when they get caught red handed... ? Takata? VW??? Ford??
