Lately I've seen it all over DU and have refrained from comment. Until now.

The "Widow's Mite" was an exceedingly tiny coin of charity given to destitute women, presumably to keep them from outright starving in front of the townspeople. The story goes that a poor woman donated some of what she had to charity for those worse off than herself -- as Jesus said, her "widow's mite."

Not "might" -- she had no worldly power. She gave what she could, though. Must not have been a member of the GOP.
