No---he wasn't paying them back for hacking the election, which was never a sure thing.

That's not why he changed the platform to suit the Russians. It's because the Russians have tons of stuff on him going back several decades with loans, bail-outs of bankruptcy, and shady real estate purchases (a form of money laundering). He was being blackmailed.

I also think his phones were probably tapped. By the Russians! They have three aces up their sleeve if they can really control an American President. And that's what they were after. And what they got.
