I cant imagine that youre not totally humiliated by the Idiot you put in the White House but then, one has to have some kind of scruples, some set of core principles that supersede all other considerations in order to feel shame and you apparently have neither.
I had no hand in supporting Trump, and I most assuredly did not vote for him. And yet I find myself cringing every time he opens his mouth. I cannot begin to imagine the shame I would feel if I had actually contributed to his being elevated to any position of power or influence, no less the office of the presidency of the United States.
I keep wondering when you will determine that a line has been crossed, when you will decide that this foul-mouthed, totally incompetent asshole has gone too far. Sadly, it seems obvious that your party and its members are devoid of common decency, and unable to distinguish between behaviour that is appropriate for a man in Trumps position and the words and actions of a bullying schoolyard brute.
Despite your alleged good Christian values, you sat in silence as a self-declared pussy-grabber, with your oh-so-eager help, rose to the highest office in the land. Despite your claims that he was equipped to handle the responsibilities of that office, you sat in silence as he repeatedly demonstrated his complete ignorance of what those responsibilities entailed, along with his obvious inability to fulfill them.
Despite eight years of endless criticism of Obama eight years of governance that actually did make America great again after the ineptitude of George W. Bush and its consequences you cheered as a classless, clueless buffoon sat his lard-ass in the Oval Office, and immediately proclaimed his intentions to un-do everything that Obama had accomplished for the betterment of the citizenry, and the nation as a whole.
When Trump tweeted nonsense aimed at demeaning anyone he perceived as having crossed him, you ignored it. When he made statements that amounted to incoherent gibberish, you looked the other way. When he repeatedly lied about everything from his electoral win to statistics he clearly pulled from his own behind, you twiddled your thumbs and stared off into space. When he praised Putin and disparaged our allies, you kept your fingers in your ears and your mouths firmly shut.
And now, on top of everything else this deranged idiot has already done to tarnish our nations standing in the world, he has accused President Barack Obama without any evidence whatsoever of having used illegal means to spy on him.
Exactly where do you draw the line? Precisely when do you stand up to this ridiculous excuse of a POTUS, and hang your collective heads in shame at the thought of having placed him in a position where he is free to so blatantly disrespect the office of the presidency by making such ludicrous accusations?
Your boy, Trump, has already made our country a laughingstock by virtue of the fact he could ever have attained the presidency in the first place. While our global neighbours shake their heads in disbelief at the unreality of it all, you continue to make excuses for a lying, vengeful, self-serving prick who has no business defiling our White House, and everything it represents, with his never-ending displays of foolishness, abject stupidity, and behaviour that is unbefitting a decent human being, no less the supposed leader of the free world.
Throughout the presidential campaign and now Trumps time in office, I have awaited that moment when someone, anyone, on your side of the aisle says enough is enough, we can no longer hide behind the pretense that this madman is somehow suitable for the office of POTUS. I have waited for that time when your embarrassment takes hold, when your humiliation is so great that you can no longer live with your own guilty conscience in having kept silent for so long.
Will that day ever come? Will you ever have the guts to muzzle the rabid dog you have unleashed on the nation, and admit your complicity in allowing it to literally shit all over everything our country stands for?
Given your silence thus far, I doubt you are capable of doing anything that requires something more than standing on the sidelines while Putins pooch destroys us all. Your unwillingness to end the disaster that is this Trump "presidency" is no longer simply a matter of standing back and allowing the chips to fall where they may - it is aiding and abetting an insane criminal in his quest to reshape our country into something abhorrent to every conscientious American, and every thinking member of the global community.
You should be ashamed of yourselves, and what you have wrought. But that takes a conscience; it takes patriotism, it takes courage, and it takes decency all qualities which you clearly lack. It takes those whose love of freedom outweighs the idea of political victory. In other words, it takes more than lip-service to an idiot who has absolutely no concept of the duties of his office, and no regard for the well-being of people he pretends to lead.
At least we now know where you stand - at the back of the room, cowering in silence and completely uncaring about your country, your fellow citizens, and your commitment to the furtherance of our democracy.
Your lack of embarrassment says it all. You, the GOP, are devoid of principles. I can only hope that the citizenry remembers your cowardice in the days to come, and vote accordingly in future - and I have a feeling that they will do exactly that.

(42,649 posts)The GOP is concerned only about principal, not principles.
As long as their jobs are safe, and thanks to gerrymandering they are, GOP politicians will continue to enrich themselves at our expense. And their racist and clueless voters will support them no matter what.
None of these GOP actions will cause GOP voters to have second thoughts. If they had demonstrated any first thoughts they would not have voted for Trump in the first place.

(7,604 posts)Republicans are addicted to raw power, just like Trumpy. Their priorities are toward their audience, and it's not the joes and sallies in Iowa. It's their big donors who want something for their money. They're the ones who pay big dollars for their lobbyists to jawbone with Congress. Nothing comes cheap, but corporations pay big money for influence so that they get huge returns in legislative favors. THAT'S who Republicans talk to. You don't matter to them. I don't matter to them. They play in a whole different stadium. For them, being shamed would mean that they missed an opportunity for a big donation from a fawning billionaire.

(27,835 posts)But eventually, it comes down to the voters.
Voters who will lose their affordable healthcare coverage will opt out of their membership in the GOP choir. Voters who don't see their jobs come back as a result of Trump's campaign promises will be even more pissed-off than they already are. Voters who watch as their children's education deteriorates will learn a valuable lesson about who's on whose side. Voters who lose their life's savings due to being bankrupted by medical bills will not rush out to vote another Republi-cant into office.
I've been around long enough to hear the "Republican voters will never turn on their own party" meme over and over - and yet, they often do. It has to hit home, and it has to hurt - BIGLY! - and there's no doubt that it's going to.
Republican voters may not care about their POTUS being an ignorant asshole - but they DO care about the things that affect them personally.
They may never give a second thought to their fellow citizens' plight, but they DO care about their own.
If that were not the case, we would never have elected Obama, and there wouldn't be a single Democrat in office.
I have little faith in Republican voters doing the right thing by their country - but I have every confidence in their
ability to look out for themselves when it's been proven to them that their loyalty to the GOP has bitten them in their own asses.
And they are about to be bitten in every way imaginable.

(7,010 posts)As long as trump can still be used by the repubs to sign executive orders and soon to be bills they will keep supporting him. Besides pence is the one many repubs really want. The religious repubs were promised pence if they vote for trump. The religious repubs think that trump/pence will lead them to the end times. WTF??? When repubs find trump no longer useful or if he threatens their reelection then they will consider getting rid of him.
I do have a question for all the third party, principle/purity or no voters out there. How's that working out for ya now? Who did you think you would punish? All you did was punish we the people. Most of all I feel sorry for the young folks. With a trump Supreme Court, your lives are ruined for decades. I sure hope these folks have learned that we are stronger together.

(16,230 posts)Their behavior over the years seems to show that they feel no shame. Apparently a large portion of them are psychopaths or sociopaths as they seem to care little about the welfare of others and are willing to constantly game the system, and distort the truth or even outright lie in order to advance their antisocial goals.

You use rational argument. That will not work here. If it did, he'd have NEVER been elected.
There is ONLY one thing that would get his brownshirts to turn on him.. Them thinking that we love and support him, or at the very least no longer hate him.
This whole Rump thing isn't about them putting in someone they actually think will "make America great again". Not a damn thing to do with it. The more the media pointed out his flaws, the more us "snowflakes" spoke out against him, the more they supported him.
It has absolutely nothing to do with #45, it's all about revenge on the left for having "forced Obama" onto them for 8 years, and now it's time for revenge.
I see evidence of this every single day on social media, and in the comments sections of news articles. Almost nobody defends anything #45 does, it's always "well Obama did", or "well Hillary did", or "suck it up snowflake", or "go crawl back to your safe place"..
The ONLY real appeal Trump has to them is that his actions piss us off. They don't stop for one fucking second to realize that the same shit we're pissed off about screws them over as well. That doesn't matter, as long as it pisses us "pansy liberals" off.

(5,178 posts)Even worse, since his inauguration it's become obvious that Trump didn't even have a primary schoolers' conception of how our government works. Apparently he thought he could just come in and sign a bunch of executive orders and all the outrageous promises he made would be accomplished.

(146 posts)That's what I said to my sister yesterday-will just one Republican ever stand up to this idiocy? Will embarrassment, human decency or morality ever factor in the equation? I'd love to wake up to the news that a Repub member of congress or a senator just quit, walked out, went home to live a life away from the hate and vitriol. Make a simple statement and go away. Would give some of us hope if there was ONE who saw the damage and destruction for the hate and prejudice it is. I can dream......
