(21,119 posts)Usually you see dogs that have done something like this. It's the first time I've seen a human do something this stupid. Those quills are barbed too, so they're a booger to pull out.

(14,049 posts)of quills, OH!! It was awful to see!! Poor thing - but he was calm and collected, and I hope a fine syringe of morphine was administered to him toot sweet - terrible sight!

(21,119 posts)I'm sure the dog was uncomfortable, but the barbs on the quills actually make them go into the victim more easily. Compared to a hypodermic needle of the same diameter, porcupine quills slide right in. They're actually studying them to try to design a more effective drug delivery system.

(14,049 posts)The researchers think understanding porcupine quill properties can help them make less painful needles, because of the lower force needed for penetration.....And the study reminds us that you really, really don't want to mess with a porcupine.
