Well, this conversation today really blew me the Hell away...

Imagine if you will, a really brilliant businessman, lifelong progressive, who is worth in the mid NINE-figures (no lie), his IQ is probably well over 155, and is one of the most insightful political people I'd ever spoken to. He hated Bush Jr., thought Reagan was a senile old goat upon his election in 1980, can't stand the RWers in Congress.

So I came in at 6:15 AM to see him and what does he say to me? And I quote almost exactly: My wife hates, no, despises Gingrich, but I tell ya, if you put a gun to my head, I'd have to say that I'd vote for Romney, at least right now. Our guy hasn't done much as far as I'm concerned.

My reply:It's OK...I'll be happy to put a gun to your head if you want to do this.

He didn't laugh all that hard...

I hope he has a follow up later in the year. It will be interesting to hear if he's changed his mind.

I could get a lot of replies here and attention if I wrote that I thought that David Duke was a pretty charismatic guy with interesting ideas, but that wouldn't exactly be the correct or moral thing to do...

There is a vast gulf between Obama and Romney. But would I still feel that way if it might cost me literally millions of dollars to vote for Obama?

Well, I would never be the kind of person to admit to myself that I would switch my allegiance for such a selfish reason. But I've been critical of Obama, haven't I? And Romney supported liberal positions in the past, didn't he? Hmmmmmmmm.....

That is the thought process going through such a persons head.

The really sad part, is that the same thought process manages to sway thousands of voters making say, $300,000 a year, who think they're part of the 1% but really wouldn't be allowed to shine the 1%'s shoes.

He could raise people from the dead tomorrow and no one would report it, or would twist it, or lie about it.

The corporate media has done all they can to make him look ineffectual.

Non believers should at least check out this page:

Not everyone is satisfied. Time to send a message. At least now I have a reason to vote in the primary too.

Criticize away. Be specific. But don't pretend to think that Romney is going to be an improvement.

that if you'd put a gun to his head he would have to confess the truth.

I don't think he was speaking in terms of being under duress to vote for Romney, but rather to confess his preference for Romney over Obama.

"Obama's a nice guy, but he just can't handle the economy, apparently. I'm a successful businessman who has made large companies profitable. I know how the economy works and how to create jobs."

It sounds sensible, so I can see people falling for that. The Dems are TERRIBLE at tooting their own horn, so there's no one countering that message right now. Hopefully, that time will come.

We always knew it'd be about the economy, and that's what your friend is thinking of. And let's be frank: it's in your friend's economic interest to vote for Romney, so it'd be naiive to think that that doesn't play at least a small part in his thinking. Which is only natural, to think of one's own interest.

Thanks to President Obama this guy and many more like him had their fortunes backstopped and probably saved with public equity.

This person along with a multitude of bailed out insurance executives and bankers should be getting ready to man phone banks, knock on doors and donate. It's payback time but where are they?
