Question About The Tax Returns??

So when an individual on a committee asks for something official - specifically in this case Trump's tax returns - does the request have to come from the committee chair, or a request signed by a majority of the committee members? I was hearing today that someone on the the Senate Intel asked for them , but if it's got to come from the chair I won't hold my breath.

They should keep asking until they get them. If he's on the Senate Intel that should be enough. caroldansen Mar 2017 #3
Apparently the chairperson must request them... PoliticAverse Mar 2017 #5

That's why my question is - can committee members actually get something like returns when it's only Dem members making the request?

I understand it may be possible in a hearing regarding cause for Trump wire taps which did not occur. Someone may ask anyway.

The democrats in the house intelligence committee can Supena his tax returns. Susan Collins was open to it. They want to make this a bi-partisan effort. I'm paraphrasing all this from what I remember.

From: http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/07/news/economy/trump-tax-returns/

Thanks to a little-known and rarely used provision in the law, either the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee or the Joint Committee on Taxation may request anyone's tax returns to examine -- including the president's -- from the secretary of the Treasury.
