House and Senate pass highway and student loan bill (updated)

Last edited Fri Jun 29, 2012, 03:06 PM - Edit history (1)

House Passes Highway And Student Loan Bill | Moments ago, the House of Representatives passed a re-authorization of the highway bill by a vote of 373-52. House Republicans had previously been blocking the package, holding up funding for 1.9 million transportation jobs. The bill also includes an extension of the student loan rates that will prevent them from doubling on Sunday. The legislation will now go to the Senate, where it’s likely to pass.

UPDATE: The Senate just approved the bill by a vote of 74-19.

Get ready for the Republican to claim and get all the credit for working with the tax and spend Democrats.

We know that is the way the news networks operate. So just get ready, this will be seen as a reason to elect Romney. I wouldn't be surprised if this is spun as Democrats scared they would lose in November and somehow give all credit to Romney.

Is it possible that the Republicans are finally seeing that their intransigence will lead to nothing but bad news for them, and are possibly modifying their behavior?

We can hope.

They couldn't afford to vote this down after that ridiculous spectacle yesterday. It made them look like partisan hacks.

I'm certain that if the SCOTUS ruling had gone the other way, they would have voted down this bill today.
