I'm thinking - no.
But I can never underestimate the cowards on the right.

(7,908 posts)are required for the bill to fail, according to The Hill and right now there are 22 'no' votes.

(71,542 posts)The bill will die in the Senate.

(6,344 posts)I think if it does pass house and senate, that we will see law after law cutting holes into ACA. We have seen republicans do this with many other laws they don't like.

(28,749 posts)Then what happens next will decide the fate of it.
If you start to hear "delay" mutterings then they know there were more than 22 "no's".

(82,849 posts)Far too much damage would be inflicted on Republican representatives both for and against the bill. If they can't count enough votes to pass it in the next 24 hours, I think you're right. The bill will be rescheduled or tabled or someone will see a black cat and demand that the House adjourn for the day, then it will be "Bill? What bill? American Health Care Act? Never heard of it."
We'll see how inclined our bulldogs of the Fourth Estate will be to shove that failure up the Republicans' pasty white asses.

(658 posts)Some think it's too liberal. Some think it's too restrictive. Some think it will cost too much. Some don't want to give Paul Ryan the satisfaction. And some are afraid to vote against the will of their constituents - whom they heard from pretty loudly and clearly during the Town Meetings. I think this all adds up to too few votes.

(30,481 posts)They only need to get one or two more Republicans in the house. There are few easier marks. It won't even take that much effort for them to pay off one or two more.

(24,967 posts)If they vote against it, they get Trump attacking them and possibly supporting a primary challenger next year (if he's still around, that is) and if they vote for it, they get a Democrat- backed up by an angry crowd of voters appalled by this POS bill who could potentially throw them out of office.

(24,967 posts)Unless the Freedom Caucus wants to really kill it, I think that it *might* pass the House (no less than Ryan's speakership is at stake) but I can't see it going anywhere in the Senate. It would be delicious if it fails in the House, though.

(24,967 posts)There are no Democrats voting for ACHA and no self-respecting Democrat voted for Trump for POTUS. This is all on them.

(34,285 posts)gop asshole will vote no so they can pretend they care about their constituents, when of course were it passable they would vote yes.
How do we convince truck drivers and Walmart greeters and 7/11 clerks that the GOP wants to kill them? Because they do.
Demsrule86
(71,542 posts)repealed will approve as their elected rep tried and those who want it left alone will breathe a sigh of relief.

(1,354 posts)NBC reported that after Trump's strong arm meeting yesterday, he lost 10 more... I think he's pissing them off with his lies and they've heard too much from their constituents, saying this is a terrible bill... I agree that Ryan wouldn't bring it to a vote if it won't pass, but either way, a delay is a loss for Trump/Ryan & Co.
Vinca
(54,026 posts)But they're kind of in a lose-lose situation. If they vote "yes," they piss off their base because they want full repeal. They also piss off moderates who don't want to kill so many poor people all at once. If they vote "no," they piss the same people off because they expected something to happen. It's kind of amusing.
Demsrule86
(71,542 posts)And those who want ACA left alone still have ACA...this is the only vote that helps conservatives.
marlakay
(13,299 posts)Because Trump is threatening to primary people if they don't.
Also because Republicans tend to follow in lock step no matter how awful.
The senate though I don't think will pass unless they change more of it.
Amishman
(5,929 posts)Once enough bribes are cooked into the bill, it will pass.
The senate is the wildcard IMO. Not sure what will happen there.
