Washington (CNN)The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton's campaign, US officials told CNN.
This is partly what FBI Director James Comey was referring to when he made a bombshell announcement Monday before Congress that the FBI is investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russia, according to one source.
The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings, according to those U.S. officials. The information is raising the suspicions of FBI counterintelligence investigators that the coordination may have taken place, though officials cautioned that the information was not conclusive and that the investigation is ongoing.
In his statement on Monday Comey said the FBI began looking into possible coordination between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives because the bureau had gathered "a credible allegation of wrongdoing or reasonable basis to believe an American may be acting as an agent of a foreign power."
The White House did not comment and the FBI declined to comment.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer maintained Monday after Comey's testimony that there was no evidence to suggest any collusion took place.

(5,874 posts)she won't be selling ANYthing. Her brand will be completely washed up, as will the entire trump "empire," such as it is. Frankly, I think it is and has all been a tackily-gilded Potemkin Village for some time.

(2,161 posts)why is the "possibly" in there?
If the FBI has the "information", most likely transcripts, why is it "possibly"? They should know what was said and if there was coordination or not.
Why are they bothering to weasel word if they have the info? Something still smells fishy here. Why don't they just come out with it?

(15,805 posts)None of this happened without Trump's approval. He might not have the intellectual chops to have masterminded the operation, but he agreed to participate in the Russian collusion scheme to win the presidency by any means.

(101,996 posts)This is the moron who publicly uttered "I love wikileaks" and and publicly asked them to release more dirt on Hillary. I still am flummoxed that a man of his limited intellect could amass any kind of fortune. I have been in the company of rich people and they don't carry themselves anything like Trump.

(13,906 posts)While I don't think he may have known exactly what was going on, since he doesn't exactly get his info from honest, reliable sources, I do think he does know something about the money deals and the spoils that were promised if he delivered. (so to speak)
But, I agree. His "limited intellect" makes it hard to see how he could pull this off with any kind of success.

(8,849 posts)thing, but on top of that he's got Russian oligarchs and mobsters holding the strings since the early 90s.
I hope all the investigations don't stop with collusion and communication during the election wrt campaign underlings and the wikileaks and bots stuff. That's really bad, hopefully enough to petition SCOTUS for a do-over. But a much deeper, much longer, much more dangerous angle is 30 years of money laundering, payoffs, compromat, incestuous financial deals with shell companies, Russian LLC's, mysterious mobster private planes mirroring Air Force One, etc.. You can't get rid of these nefarious, dark relationships by throwing some zealous campaign figures under the bus.
He is them and they are him. Trump and the Russians are inseparable. There are trillions on the line...and Trumps entire fortune, puny compared to Putin, is in the balance too. Not to mention Nato, Russian imperialism, world war III.
