I don't think the NYC branch has much to do with the Foreign influence investigation that is tripping across Drumpf's staff all over the place. And Comey doesn't seem to be helpful to the White House any more.

The Administration has the power to fill many jobs at justice. You can bet Bannon is involved in deciding who gets these jobs. The types of positions filled by appointment are:

Noncareer Senior Executive Service Jobs
Schedule C appointments
Presidential appointments without Senate confirmation
Presidential appointments with Senate confirmation

I've listed the positions within justice that look like they could potentially have some involvement (and therefore be well-placed to manipulate) There are lots more jobs filled by the administration, but I excluded titles for positions that are clearly unrelated.)

I don't know how many of these jobs the administration has actually filled, or how many would actually be in a position to manipulate things. Reportedly DT is absurdly far behind in making appointments, but I'm guessing getting "their" people installed at justice is a high priority.
