How will it effect Trump's standing in Washington if his first major initiative that comes to a vote fails? Will he be able to work with the Freedom Caucus in the future? Which GOP Reps will come around to support the bill to prevent Trump's Administration from suffering a potentially devastating legislative loss right out of the box? What are the political implications blah blah blah...
I'm sorry. This isn't about Trump or Ryan's political fortunes. This isn't about advantage Democrats or advantage Republicans. Millions of lives are LITERALLY at risk here. Real people, real suffering, real death. Pundits need to get out of the fucking DC bubble and stay focused on what is actually at stake.

(39,303 posts)It's utterly offensive and only a handful have the guts to tell the truth when they get a a chance such as Bernie, Schumer, Schiff but that's not as fucking entertaining as a bunch of psychopaths who lack critical thinking skills - or who are so greedy that it wouldn't matter anyway..

(22,911 posts)After all the Republicans guarantee access to health insurance. If people choose to be too poor to have it that's what liberty is all about. Making America Great again, back to the good old days when people were free to have illnesses go untreated. Less mental health, more addiction, and more guns. Yep, "the free hand" of the market at work.

(10,437 posts)and right now they are in power and democrats are pretty much powerless....but political defeats of trump and ryan will embodden the democratic opposition....making an argument about saving lives means little in conservative land

(22,911 posts)But the defeats can be covered as the principle news story once the defeats literally happen. Right now the debate, and coverage of it, needs to focus on the literal issue that is being voted on, and the health implications for America if it should pass.
It's similar to how the media zeros in on the horse race aspect of our presidential elections more so than on competing substantive agendas for America
I know there are plenty of exceptions to that rule, but right now the focus needs to be on what is inside the house bill that Ryan is pushing. I am glad that organizations like AARP are doing some of the heavy lifting on that.
