As pleased as I am that the Republican infighting worked its magic today, they have no short term time limits. They can put their staffers to work hammering out a revised bill over the next few weeks and try again.
Hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me that their biggest strategic error was letting their egos tell them they needed to ram something through quickly to throw red meat to some of their base. It took more than 18 months for the ACA to be passed. Health care issues are complex. Even if you have the best intentions, which unfortunately these jerks clearly do not have, it takes time to put together something that might pass muster.
And, unlike the ACA, this act took away things Americans had and want to keep. Usually, that is going to provoke more voter attention and interest than something that provides something new. (See the "theory of relative deprivation" .
However, these narcissists will continue to try until they are stopped. So we have to be vigilant and let our representatives know what we think.

(5,043 posts)One the one hand, the ACA is not perfect and needs tweaking. However, I do not trust these guys to have my fellow Americans' interests in mind.
For now, we try to hold the line until 2018.

And yes, Repubs will continue to undermine it as much as possible.
You're right. It's not over, by a long shot. We won the first inning. Much more work to do to defend what we have now and expand coverages and benefits.
