Musing about AHCA alternatives...

...suppose the Republicans had eliminated mandate, but REQUIRED all Insurance providers to 1) accept any applicant; 2) provide basic health service list and 3) put everyone in a SINGLE risk pool (no distinction between young/old, healthy/sick, no geographic distinction, no discounts for institutional/corporate purchasers. What kind of premiums would we be looking at?

Young people unless they have significant assets really don't have a reason to purchase it. That was the fatal flaw of the ACA - the penalties were not significant enough to compel participation.

mandate repealed, a lot of folks would just wait until they got sick to purchase insurance. That would mean, those who did purchase it would be paying extra.
