Burning Obamacare to the ground was always a House Republican obsession that Trump, in the heat of the campaign, took up to spite the president while tossing a little red meat to Republicans. Repeal and replace is alliterative, after all: it sounds nice enough on an arena stage. Its just hard to pull off in the real world, as Donald Trump found out on Friday.
It was a humiliating defeat, which he tried to blame unbelievably on the Democrats.
Ryans Trumpcare was a horrendous concoction and should disabuse fawning congressional reporters of the notion that the speaker is a man of deep intellect and self-reflection. Had the bill not fallen flat on its face this Friday, it would have had little chance of passing the Senate.
What remains is the fact that Donald Trump couldnt close the deal. He is hoping everyone blames Ryan, and Trump is lucky that his supporters might do just that. The diehards, inhabiting his post-factual universe, will simply write Ryan off as a loser they hated him anyway and hail their king for the bounties hes still promising. But healthcare will ultimately be Donald Trumps problem. Thats how our politics work. So far, the president has been more fatuous than fascistic, though he belatedly realized what an albatross the bill had become. His negotiating powers, whatever they ever were, failed.
Were Trump the deal-making genius his ego tricked himself into believing he was, he would never have taken up this healthcare venture. In 2018, 2019, and 2020, screaming Obamas name wont matter anymore. The country will just know President Trump and the damage being done. [QUOTE]

(164 posts)In John F Kennedy's Inaugural address he famously said; "If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich." Trump and the Ayn Rand groupie Ryan are going to get really well schooled on the consequences of the unintended reality of the consequences when an angry citizenry rises up and swats away scoundrels that would dare damage their country and that country's good reputation. And they richly deserve everything they are going to get.

Every other word in the gibberish that he spewed today was "Obama", "Obamacare", "Bad bad", "Exploding", "Democrats", "Obama". They spent 8 years attacking President Obama as their strategy and now that they are in charge of pretty much every branch (including the SCOTUS with Roberts), and what do they do? Continue to attack Obama - yelling at that empty chair with nonsensical empty threats.
And here's the irony of Eastwood's idiocy - a Wapo article I found done last summer about that incident -
As Eastwood told it to Esquire, he was apparently hanging out backstage at the RNC, listening to Neil Diamonds I Am, I Said. In case youre suffering a Diamond drought, heres the tune:
He was worried that his speech would sound like those of everyone else endorsing Romney Im hearing everyone say the same thing: Oh, this guys a great guy. Great, hes a great guy. Ive got to say something more, Eastwood said. Thats when the Diamond ballad reached a chorus in which he sings, And no one heard at all / Not even the chair.
A light bulb lit up over Eastwoods head.
He told Esquire:
And Im thinking, Thats Obama. He doesnt go to work. He doesnt go down to Congress and make a deal. What the hells he doing sitting in the White House? If I were in that job, Id get down there and make a deal. Sure, Congress are lazy bastards, but so what? Youre the top guy. Youre the president of the company. Its your responsibility to make sure everybody does well.
So he decided to call out the president. Only the president wasnt available, so he spoke to the chair instead. And it turns out that Eastwood regrets it. When asked what troubles him most (in his life, we suppose), his answer was I guess when I did that silly thing at the Republican convention, talking to the chair.

Seems they have alot to learn about making a "deal". Maybe consult Monty Hall.
