Presidency could be finished by Russia investigations

... John Schindler, a security expert and former counterintelligence officer, said that if the US President was to face an indictment over allegations his campaign team colluded with Russia to disrupt the presidential election, it could put an end to his presidency.

Speaking to CBC radio, Mr Schindler said: “If, not just people around him, but the president himself is facing possible indictment down the road, that could be a game changer. He could be removed from office for that, whether he wants to be or not."

Mr Schindler said that with the FBI investigation, actions by Congress and a possible independent inquiry, Mr Trump and his team’s alleged ties to Russia would "inevitably" be made public.

10. Sitting US President cannot be indicted

...they went through this very carefully with Nixon when Leon Jaworkski was the Watergate Special Prosecutor. This is why the Watergate grand jury secretly named Nixon as an unindicted co-conspirator with his cronies.

Jaworski concluded that the only way to indict a President was to impeach and convict on the impeachment, ending the presidency. Then the former president could be indicted for a criminal act.

Not an expert, but I think this is clear-cut. The same doesn't apply for a Vice-President. Spiro Agnew tried this in 1973, but no dice. He pled nolo contendere (i.e., no contest) to tax evasion and resigned. He basically cut a deal to avoid prison by resigning.

However, RICO violations allow for both criminal and civil charges. Add that President Clinton was forced (incorrectly) to answer civil charges. And the civil proceedings -- including being held responsible -- meets the definition of "high crimes and misdemeanors."
