The Washington Post detailed the House GOPs fight over the ObamaCare repeal and replacement plan this week, rounding up the dramatic details of leaderships fight to win support for the measure.
At one point, the paper said, House Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.) got down on one knee to plead with Rep. Don Young of Alaska the longest-serving Republican in Congress -- to support the bill. (He was unsuccessful.)
The moments highlighted by the Post during the Republican conference negotiations show what a tough battle Ryan and his deputies faced in whipping the vote.
But they also show the fierce support some offered to leadership -- like freshman Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, who lost both legs in 2010 in Afghanistan and called on colleagues to unite behind the bill as he and his Army colleagues had done on the battlefield.
At another point, a Republican shouted, Burn the ships to Majority Whip Steve Scalise, invoking the command a 14th century Spanish conquistador gave his crew when they landed in Mexico.

If I recall the old ditty correctly, "In 14 hundred and 92, Columbus sailed the ocean blue". That's the very end of the 15th century, and well before the conquistadors began murdering the Aztecs and Mayans, not Mexicans.
As I said, petty, but come on folks, act as if you are actually educated when rightfully bashing the other side. Sheesh!

(51,554 posts)But what really jarred me by the quote is the testosterone filled bravado. These asswipes talk like they're risking they're lives in some kind of valiant battle. We're talking about taking people's healthcare away. The only people's lives at risk here are these asswipe's victims should that abomination of a law have passed.

(82,849 posts)You have in your hands the chance to deny health care to 24 million Americans. What will you tell future generations that you didn't do it? Can you really live with yourself if you give in to humanity? What kind of Republican are you?

Ayn Rand Railed Against Government Benefits, But Grabbed Social Security and Medicare When She Needed Them
Now we know that Rand was also just as hypocritical as the Tea Party freshman who railed against government health care to get elected and then whined that he had to wait a month before getting his own Cadillac plan courtesy of the taxpayers.
