Mar 2017

The reason for that is that Rupert Murdoch leverages all his other networks to force cable stations to carry Fix Noise, which is a very expensive channel. Even though their audience has skewed old for a very long time. Sorry fellow oldsters, but those of us over 65 get no credit in ratings demographics, because we are considered set in our ways and tough sells. So they have long had a larger but nominally less valuable audience.

bind for NBC/Universal and Comcast. They supported Trump and refused to report anything negative for the best part of 18 months and give him hours a day of free campaign promotional time. And that was just to hold onto their shitty ratings. Gee,who would have thought for one minute,if you do a little truth telling your shitty ratings suddenly go away and you make more money telling the truth rather than repeating Propaganda.

Comcast=Phil Anshutz and Right Wing Media Groups.

I want to hear both sides. I can handle hearing those with whom I disagree. I don't want to be in an echo chamber.

One of many factors that has helped MSNBC's ratings rise is that they have increased the amount and prominence of their hard news content, and that is a move I endorse. A hard news presence is one of the foundational requirements for an organization to deservedly refer to itself as a news channel.

So now they have a hard news presence with commentators and news makers of all political persuasions, along with left of center commentary programming in prime time, backed up by a beefed up hard news presence. That is the type of news channel that appeals to me, and I am definitely liberal.

Some of you seem to believe that the parent company owes it to progressives to run a liberal news site. They don't.

Edit: took out two redundant, superfluous words, with no real change in content.

That said, his approval numbers are falling and that can only mean a few of the non-cultists are waking up. I'll take what I can get. And if Rachel can reach those voters, so much the better.

To keep a eye on is Greta's disastrous ratings. She lost a half million viewers from her lead-in MTP Daily and those 500k came back for Harball.

By the numbers 3/24: MTP 1.687 million total viewers
Greta 1.166
HB. 1.775

Even more disaster if you look at the Key Demo 25-54 year olds in her time slot:
FNC, Baier 555,000 viewers
CNN, Wolf 480,000
MSNBC, Greta 218,000

She's a bad match for viewers of MSNBC, and should be dumped immediately.

And bombing with the 25-54 demo will certainly catch the attention of Comcast bigwigs.

On Friday after the health care bill failed, more viewers watched Rachel Maddow (3.058 million) then watched Bill O’Reilly on Fox News (2.363 million). MSNBC’s The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell (2.328 million) drew more viewers than Fox’s Sean Hannity (2.235 million). The only MSNBC program that did worse than Fox News primetime was Chris Hayes, but All In still drew 2.154 million viewers.

MSNBC has been on an incredible ratings roll since Donald Trump took office. According to an MSNBC statement provided to PoliticusUSA, “The Rachel Maddow Show at 9pm finished March 2017 as the #1 cable news show in the key A25-54 demo in the M-F 9-10pm time period. This marks the first time MSNBC has been #1 in the A25-54 demo during that time period ever, and the first time in almost five years since MSNBC beat FOX News in the demo in any hour for the month (previous was “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” in December 2012). “The Rachel Maddow Show” and MSNBC had its best total viewer delivery in the time period ever in the show’s eight-and-a-half years or network’s 20-year history and the best A25-54 delivery since November 2008. “The Rachel Maddow Show’s” total audience was up +106% over March 2016, while CNN was flat (+3%) and FOX News was up +11%. In the A25-54 demo, “The Rachel Maddow Show” grew +103% year-over-year, besting CNN (+14%) – attaining its biggest lead over CNN since February 2014 – and FOX News (+18%). For the first quarter of 2017, “The Rachel Maddow Show” beat CNN in both total viewers and A25-54. The show delivered its best total viewer delivery ever and best A25-54 delivery in the time period since 4Q08.”

What bugs me about cable tv, sat or hard line, MSNBC is on a higher tier than Fox. Fox news comes even with the lowest price basic service. MSNBC comes on the higher priced packages. If MSNBC was offered on basic their viewership would no doubt increase.
