The head of Israels leading Republican group called comedian and actress Sarah Silverman a self-hating Jew who needs a muzzle in a Facebook post Saturday. The post, which was written by the Republicans Overseas Israel co-chairman Marc Zell, according to The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, linked to a blog post about a more-than-decade-old clip of Silvermans stand-up show Jesus is Magic.
Republicans Overseas Israel exists in order to not only represent the Republican Party here in Israel but also to represent the Jewish community in Israel to the Republican Party and the millions of Americans who support the Republican Party and our president, he told JTA Sunday.
I think its appropriate to say something about a public figure as widely known as this woman, who during the campaign also had some precious views to express about our candidate and our president. People like her need to be called down when they step over the line.
Commenters on the post called Silverman a trash box and pig, before Zell responded: Better not to even pass her stuff around. Im hitting delete. The post no longer appeared on the groups Facebook page Tuesday.

Is Israel one of our states?
What are our political parties doing over there?

on all sides exist.
National Association of Arab-Americans, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the Arab American Institute, the NRA, AARP, AIPAC
In addition, Arab governments pay millions of dollars to lobbying firms that work to influence the American government
so your selective outrage, is a reflection of your selective bias

(54,256 posts)I haven't spewed since I was a junior in college, I'm pretty sure.
I admit that it was a poor decision on my part concerning Everclear Grain Alcohol.
I should have questioned ANY beverage that was called Purple Jesus.
Chalk it up to my callow, ignorant, and naïve youth.
I come from Alabama.
Mea culpa.
Anti-Israel?
Actually I've been pretty much pro Israel all my life.
When I read "Exodus", although I was already an atheist by then, I thought "If I was gonna be anything, I'd be a Jew."
They were some damn tough bastards.
BTW, the Brits were pricks.
I do think that AIPAC has undue influence ($$$) on our government, just like the NRA ($$$), the Koch Brothers ($$$), and others.
Maybe we disagree, but please don't hate me for tthat.
OK?
Peace

(92,190 posts)that "Israel might as well be considered a state" because of AIPAC.
I am no fan of AIPAC, or for that matter lobbying groups in general. There is too much of a gray line between bribery, (donations), and lobbying groups.
When Netanyahu came to Florida to try to influence our election, I was outraged. A foreign power overtly campaigning for Romney. Every Democratic politician I am aware of were also outraged by that.
I am also for a two state solution, and believe that Israel is trending down a very dangerous path by moving away from that.
I am pretty sure we will agree on more things than disagree on, including the Middle East situation.
Anyway, sorry I came on so strong, I just got carried away with the "Israel acts as though it is a state within the U.S."
Take care

(92,190 posts)your false characterization, and by the way, Americans overseas get to vote in our election, because they are Americans

(42,702 posts)There currently are over 2.5 million Americans living abroad and many, if not most, can vote in US Presidential elections pursuant to decades old legislation. https://www.justice.gov/crt/uniformed-and-overseas-citizens-absentee-voting-act
The Democrats were the first to recognize the value of organizing US citizens living abroad. Democrats Abroad was formed in Paris and London in the mid 1960s and has expanded into many other countries. Democrats Abroad Israel has been around since the mid-1970s, helping Democrats living in Israel with absentee voting, etc.
The Republicans were much slower on the uptake, not forming Republicans Abroad until the late 1970s and not forming a Republicans Abroad Israel group until a few years ago.
That's what our political parties are doing "over there." No, Israel isn't one of our states. Neither is Paris or London or any of the multitude of other places that American citizens reside. You act like its a bad thing that Americans who live outside the country can vote. Well, I suspect more of them vote for Democrats than Republicans overall.
