"Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) said during an interview early Wednesday that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes's (R-Calif.) behavior has been aggressive and unusual in recent days.
A lot of us have a lot of history with Chairman Nunes and consider him a friend, but until we really get read into whatever drove last weeks behavior, its really hard for us, along with the rest of the American public, not to make some assumptions about what is driving this very strange behavior, Himes said on CNNs New Day.
Himes, a House Intelligence Committee member, added that the panels functions have stalled since Nunes said there was incidental intelligence surveillance of President Trumps transition team last week."

(14,167 posts)Someone in the White House threatened him. And they threatened him with something big.
I'm 95% sure he's being blackmailed and it may have something to do with that family business of his or other things he wouldn't want family members to know about.

(1,089 posts)when a pawn realizes he's a pawn, he may also realize he'll be the first to be thrown to the wolves to protect the puppet masters.
In other words, he's shitting his pants as he begins to realize what he's done and what he'll be held accountable for before too long.

(81,238 posts)Or maybe, to head that off, a plea deal - cough up the dirt and you get immunity from prosecution.
But in his case, he may have figured that he might be able to walk away from going to jail by cooperating with investigators, but when he's out among 'em and unprotected, he knows what can happen to him. Like that "special" spiked tea, perhaps? He may just assume prison would keep him safe, but you never know about that, either.
I would bet, though, that he IS weighing his options at this point. And I think the swagger we've seen lately is an attempt at a bluff to throw critics off his case. Talk tough enough, or sound sure enough, and maybe they'll just drop it?

(1,459 posts)This goes for all of the GOP...
It must give them ulcers to be in power but know that there is a decent chance it will all implode at any moment.
Plus all that power has to flow through Trump.
I imagine it isn't quite as fun as they imagined in their heads.

(81,238 posts)This seems like a classic case of "be careful what you wish for, because you might get it."
I suspect they all thought - "Oh Boy! We own it all! Let's GET IT ON!!!!!" Not realizing the pitfalls ahead.

(1,459 posts)I think they all saw the train barreling towards them as folks fell off in the primaries and decided that they could either get run over or grab it and hang on.
In any case, they saw this a long time ago and chose it as the lesser of evils option.

(38,484 posts)by "the White House," it seems logical that the "intelligence" that Nunes was shown would have included a conversation that involved Nunes himself. This would explain his nervous and highly erratic behavior. It would also explain what he meant by knowing identities, even though names were masked.

(12,448 posts)who KNOWS he'll go to jail if caught, and is willing to take risks to avoid being caught. Nunes is at least has knowledge, if he isn't actually complicit, in the Russian interference of our election.
BTW, Himes was on Rachel the other night, and made a good point. (Paraphrasing) He said that often witnesses to an Intelligence Committee hearing are whistleblowers protected by laws relating to whistleblowing, and/or current or retired intelligence officers. He asked how many would be willing to testify after they saw Nunes running to the White House after a committee session?
