Paul Ryan: Repeal health law because rights come from GodBy David Edwards - Rawstory
Sunday, July 1, 2012 11:55 EDT
<snip>
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is arguing that President Barack Obamas health care reform law should be repealed because rights come from nature and God, not the government.
During an interview on ABC, former Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedys widow, Victoria Kennedy, told host George Stephanopoulos that the Supreme Court had made the right decision by upholding the Affordable Care Act.
This health care reform was the cause of my husbands life, she explained. He believed that it was a moral issue, that it defined the character of who we were as a society, who we were as a country, and that decent quality, affordable health care should be fundamental right and not a privilege.
But Ryan rejected Kennedys assertion and promised to completely undo the law.
Were going to repeal the entire law and then were going to advance patient-centered reforms that address these kinds of issues, the Wisconsin Republican said.
I think this at the end of the day is a big philosophy difference, he continued. What Ms. Kennedy and others were saying is that this is a new government-granted right. We disagree with the notion that our rights come from government, that the government can now grant us and define our rights. Those are ours, they come from nature and God, according to the Declaration of Independence a huge difference in philosophy.

(13,669 posts)the right to live and work is something 'god' granted.
And there is no "right" to own property. that right is also god given.

(11,697 posts)deny a Person (ANY Person) things like Habeas Corpus or Due Process, REGARDLESS of whether or not that Person is a Papered Citizen, or Foreign National, or Enemy (non)Combatant.
If the Constitution merely codifies Natural, God-Given Human Rights into a Governmentally-Enforceable Law Code, (as Paul Ryan insists it does) then everyone of those guys rotting in Gitmo need to be either charged with a crime, released into the custody of the Judaical System, and given their Due Process, or released IMMEDIATELY.
Unless that understanding of the Constitution only is allowed to work in PAUL RYAN'S political favor. (Which, natch, is exactly what he is getting at. Because he's an intellectual lightweight, a propaganda whore, and an overall fucker of Mothers.)

(9,385 posts)there would be no such thing as rights of corporations, or corporations' existence at all for that matter. Or does Ryan think corporations were mentioned on Moses' stone tablets somewhere?
So did they come from nature, or God?
I'd like to hear Ryan enlighten us on that.

Just like he followed hypocrite Ayn Rand who took Medicare and Social security under her husband's name when she was dying of cancer from her tobacco habit which she claimed didn't come from smoking.
Just like he follows these Koch bums who's father got most of their family's fortune from cavorting with Joseph Stalin financially, who they also turn their backs on.
and just like that f'ing Ryan did himself when he SPITS on the same people that helped give him Social Security survivor benefits to finance his education that gave him his future then that he wants to take away from everyone else!
He and all of his Republican f buddies just want to bring back corporate health insurance DEATH PANELS and therefore to help them in their mission to kill off poor people that they love stealing wealth from and justify it in any way possible.

Was he trying to tie his illiterate remarks to July 4? Will he now start saying that Paul Revere rode around yelling "Give me Liberty or give me Death" too?

(106,199 posts)and then, for the first greivance:
So the Declaration is clear that the rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness (which are not the only rights - 'among these') need to be secured by government, and that government must pass laws for the public good.

(169,711 posts)the lunatics will ultimately continue to cherry-pick from it. For instance, this -
where the "ends" would be defined solely by them and not any sane person. It seems they want to foment something with their relentless propaganda and talking points, in an attempt to eventually associate the President with King George III.
I.e., the Declaration was addressing the colonial system of the time and the Constitution defines the current system.

(37,364 posts)And it is evil. In their estimation you have rights only if you are white, rich, christian, and healthy. We also need to start associating another term with them--social Darwinists--as well as religious bigots of the first order. Why is our side so reluctant to fight fire with fire?

(158 posts)Why(?) are we so reluctant to stand up to these Bigots and Racists? Are we that timid? Heck, these same people( like Paul Ryan), are essentially saying- to kill off as many of you low class parasites, we'll deny you any health coverage to achive this means to and end.

(130,516 posts)If among our inalienable rights (given by God, Ryan says), are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and some folks of Mr. Ryan's ilk are all into that "right to life" (which apparently applies only before you're born), why are we depriving so many people of life - one of those pesky inalienable rights - by making access to health care impossible? Isn't that making baby Jesus cry?

(283 posts)This stuff about repealing Health Care Reform is about a real disconnect between the GOP and the citizens of the United States. These folks who took the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies domestic and foreign are clueless. Those members of the Congress and Senate who hate the President and want to defy this great Document are the enemies of us all. They are putting politics out front of the people's welfare. 20 some million citizens do not have health care and these so called Representatives are standing in their way.
In my opinion there not a one of them that represent my views on this very subject and they have Health Care Plans.
So my suggestion to them is do us all a favor and just opt out of your Government Health Insurance Plans immediately and resign from Congress.
On Friday last in a 5-4 Supreme Court decision Justice Roberts stood up for the PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES. The GPO circus antics since that decision are repulsive to Veterans like myself who fought for the United States and put this Country First before ourselves.

(19,458 posts)Ryan steps up to the plate and hits a home run. Hmmm.. like someone posted above, then there should be no illegal immigrants, because God didn't specifically say that people didn't have the right to go between countries. Problem solved.
And that tool is in the running for VP??? I hope that his quotes make it into the MSM eventually.. it's a pity that millions of Americans are deprived the privilege of finding out what total assholes the republicans are.

(2,577 posts)Li'l Paul forgot to study high school civics. There he might have learned about that quaint document known as the Constitution.
The Founding Fathers would bitch slap these right-wing Republicans for yapping about a Christian god constantly. The Founding Fathers purposely left god out of the government because it was such an epic fail in Europe. (Guess Li'l Paul didn't study history either.)
The big frustration is that these are right-wing dog whistles. Their base of uneducated, born-again whites will hear this same garbage from Pastor Bubba when he isn't harping about abortion bein' murder and Jesus opposing labor unions and gays bein' an abomination ... and they will buy it.
They will tell you with a straight face that it will be a "challenge" for us to deal with our personal health care and hold cookie sales when a church member's child gets cancer and uses up the family's life-time insurance benefits. I realize that ACA eliminates this last part, but trust me, I've heard so much about these pokey fund-raisers for families left destitute by health care crises, and they make me angry.
