Mayor James Knowles III beat back a challenge from City Council member Ella Jones in the first mayoral election since Brown was shot to death by a police officer in 2014, making this St. Louis suburb a household name. Knowles won more than 56 percent of the vote.
"We all want the same thing," Knowles said Tuesday night. "We're all here for the same purpose, which is our community." He said he was confident that he and Jones and the other council members will continue to work together.
Knowles, 37, served as Fergusons public face through the intense civil unrest following Browns death. During his campaign, he argued that he should continue leading the municipality.

I always thought he was a decent man. High turnout, and he beat an African American challenger.

in Ferguson, according to KMOX radio.
The second part of your post doesn't even deserve a response, other than...
Edit - since you edited that comment out, here's what I responded to:

It would only be a misquote if I attributed it to someone incorrectly.

(18,101 posts)It's news from Ferguson that may interest some people here.
It's just facts, Creeky. Facts you don't want to know, so you attack the messenger.
If you are going to accuse someone of something vile, back it up. I'm not going through the OP's posting history but neither am I accepting your version without evidence. So far, every other post in this thread was factually wrong, aggressively so, and those posters didn't even read the damn article. I am black but I don't live in Ferguson and don't project my fantasies on it. I prefer to, you know, let the community speak for themselves.

(18,124 posts)live in ferguson and AA are constantly harassed by their 'justice' system with fines ect and probable ferguson 'felonies' a lot probably can't vote. The vote was probably rigged also. Ferguson is a racist community, always has been and always will be. The white mans win was/is to be expected in a town with a demographic such as racist ferguson.

(18,101 posts)In Knowles' last contested election, he won with 1,100 votes in three-way race. His challengers earned 1,148 votes for a total of 2,248 ballots cast. On Tuesday, 3,356 people cast ballots a 50 percent increase.
Voters in Ferguson also overwhelmingly passed an amendment to the citys charter regulating how police use body cameras.
The amendment requires that police keep the cameras turned on while on duty, preserve the video for two years, make any video taken in public places a public record and make video not obtained in public place a closed record to the extent allowed by law. It also mandates that videos of officers using force be sent to the City Council on a monthly basis and prohibits officers from using cameras for biometric searches.
I mean seriously, people, if you want to be considered more intelligent than your average knee-jerk Trumpster, read past the headline and your own presumptions. smh

(18,124 posts)than people who disagree with pintobean and you? Is that right? Towns that have citizens, usually AA, that end up paying fees for every infraction is exemplified by ferguson and one of the reasons the anger boiled over. You need to study more before spouting off about your intelligence. The reelected mayor is part of that society that causes AA financial harm to keep AA struggling. Study more, you'll feel better with the truth backing you up.

(18,124 posts)at 65%. Yet you who need to laugh at speculation as to just how racist ferguson is, keep laughing. Michael Brown is all I need to know about poor misunderstood mayor of ferguson. You who laugh are who I think you are, I read the article and my opinion hasn't changed. How many AA have been disenfranchised from voting for alleged felonies in ferguson? Look you who are, and who you are means you can laugh as you are apt to do ANY time someone on here makes a claim about how racist Caucasians are in ameriKKKa and that was proven, without any doubt on Nov, 8 2017. So keep patting yourself on the back and maintain that smugness....it will carry you a long way one day. Per the body cams, they'll just turn them off or claim malfunction, you know how they are....

(18,124 posts)you're the superior intellect. You can afford to at this time and I can't laugh as I can't get past the pity....I feel for the superior intellects of this board.

(18,101 posts)That's something from your mind. All I did was post a story and correct a false statement. At first, you claimed that white residents outnumbered AAs, now you claim that AAs are 65% of the population, not the 70% that's reported. Maybe you should correct the Post Dispatch.

(18,101 posts)You're not entitled to make up facts, though.
Anyway, the majority of voters in Ferguson disagree with you. It's their city, so I would have been fine with the outcome, either way. They're more in tune with what's going on than you or me.

(71,542 posts)Of course the local newspaper is gong to be rah rah...but the reality is...This guy is up to his eyeballs in targeting the poor;they fine people in Ferguson to pay for the government and some of that money probably goes to the state...I have seen it here in Ohio...in Youngstown it is illegal to run out of gas, it is illegal to show anything but white drapes in your windows...there are many other stupid laws which provide a tidy sum of money for everyone...policing for profit...here in Ohio, you get charged with something, you will pay a fee even if the charges are dismissed;hubs and I paid $150.00 for a ticket that was dismissed. We could afford it, but it pissed me off to no end...plenty can't afford those sort of fees that target the poor and are imposed so the rich don't have to pay their fair share....our state and cities have bullshit laws intended to hit the poor who are being used like cash cows...and if they can't pay, why throw them in a private prison...the new debtor's prison... don't ask me to be happy that man who has participated in this scam got elected...probably many voters have a felony conviction because of his broken window policing...they don't advertise elections either...This elected guy is scum...I call out every damn politician who enacts 'fees' on the poor so people like Trump can have more. It is disgraceful.
