Does it seem strange that Hillary was quoted about 2 hrs

ago saying that she'd be for taking out Assad's air fields, and then this happens now?

"And I really believe that we should have and still should take out his air fields and prevent him from being able to use them to bomb innocent people and drop sarin gas on them." - Hillary, earlier today.

I would have thought Trump would go the other way, or worse.

Of course he does this unilaterally. Stupid SOB.

Wouldn't be shocked if Putin gave his blessing for this strike to help distract from their collusion.

Random thoughts, sorry.

and it's the only reason he did it. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't Putin who gave Assad the chemicals or orchestrated the gas attack.

Does anyone believe for a minute he gives a damn about those "little babies" who killed the other day? That would be completely out of character for him.

If she is concerned about checking the madman in office, then she might want to consider the implications of her statements. As far as I can tell, it was a show strike, a $100 M show strike. The Russians were told. The Syrians were probably told. All meaningful assets were probably removed. I hope I am proven wrong.

40. My guess is that it was an intentional (read: sanctioned) leak
Thu Apr 6, 2017, 10:45 PM
Apr 2017

I suspect the administration told the minority leadership, and that the DoD or CIA suggested a leak would be a way to telegraph the play to the Syrians so that they could evacuate the base and minimize casualties. Cruise missiles were used so there was no chance of a downed airman. The idea here was to destroy an airbase and send a message - not kill people.

If Assad wants to have any chance of staying in power, he will signal a willingness to come to the bargaining table in the next few days. Putin will likely push him in that direction -- not because he is a humanitarian who gives a damn about the photos of the dead children, but because the photos of the dead children were horrible PR.

Before you accuse me of being cruel and cynical in my tone, remember that a rollback of the ACA will likely kill many American children. I'm far more concerned with Americans keeping their healthcare than how any Middle Eastern war turns out. I'll repeat what I've said before -- our nation doesn't need to continue to choose sides in wars between monarchs and dictators or to get involved in pissing contests between warring religious sects. We are poised to be able to use wind power, solar power, and natural gas in addition to our existing petroleum resources to become an oil exporter. At that point, we really have no economic interests in the Middle East except agricultural and industrial export. By 2020, wind energy may account for 89% of Iowa's electrical energy, and they are selling KWH 15% cheaper than in neighboring Nebraska, which is still very much hooked on coal. Other states should see this and follow suit. Elon Musk's battery and electrical motor technology should only get cheaper and better.

My speculation: Long term, I think the administration wants to lock arms with Russia and impose hegemony in the Middle East -- forget that whole "Arab Spring" thingy. Ending the Syrian Civil War is the first step - the reasoning being that a stable Syria - even with Assad in charge -- would be a bulwark against ISIS/ISIL/Daesh/whatever the Hell they are called this week. Then we can go back to a Middle East run by monarchs, dictators, and Israel -- some backed by Russia and some backed by the US. Back in the Cold War days, we wanted to keep Russia out of Iran at all costs. Now, I think many conservatives (and in this context, I don't just mean Republicans) would find a secular Russian - backed strongman in Iran far more preferable than the Mullahs.

Although at the same time, I think that Don The Petulant likely has a 'grasp' of the situation that's far less sophisticated than yours.

Sounds more like the thinking of Bannon, Mercer, Prince, et al ... Maybe Jared too ...

Donnie's way more concerned with "Yeah, okay, but will this make people like me? Will they tell me my hands are big? Will I get RICH? Will they talk about what I tweet? Oh, and will girls want to screw me, you know, grab their p****? I love all that!"

47. Presumably what you're really getting at here is ...
Fri Apr 7, 2017, 06:26 AM
Apr 2017

Ultimately, in a nutshell, there's a "Kick their Ass, Take Their Gas!" strategy in play, i.e. you think Drumpf/Putin are aligned in this goal. Not unreasonable. The idea of them working together to let climate change accelerate ... so the Arctic can be exploited for IT'S resources (thus contributing even MORE to climate change) also falls into the same line.

If ONLY the knuckle-draggers on the right could be brought to UNDERSTAND how EVIL the strategy of the people they're supporting really IS ... how NON CHRISTIAN it is to destroy God's creation in pursuit of WEALTH at all costs?

If we can't, their STUPID is going to destroy this planet. They think ZOMG Abortions and Gays and Taxes are the real threat ... they are brainwashed into ignoring what is literally an existential crisis for humanity (and indeed, most of life on Earth) when they poo-poo climate change. FUCK MAN. How do we get through to them?

What's going on here on Earth right now is the reason I completely doubt 'UFOs' visiting our planet. Where we're at now ... it's looking like it's very close to where evolution 'ends up'. It's looking like ... you can't get much further 'past' this stage ... without choking yourselves on your own detritus i.e. destroying your atmosphere.

There's trillions upon trillions of 'planets', and 'life' has played out I'm certain many millions of times over the billions of years ... and in the rare case it reaches 'where we are now at' ... which is probably a condition so rare that it's not happening at this moment within the nearest 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles from our planet ... or some such enormous number.

Yet it appears that, at a point long before tech is developed where distances like I'm talking about can be remotely be 'covered' by 'space travelers' ... civilizations destroy their planet. Due to ... all the shit that's happening here now.

It's truly mind-boggling to think of what a rare opportunity in the history of this universe ... we're WASTING right now. Thanks to those who refuse to grow the hell up and start thinking about THE WORLD, regarding it as our LIFE SUPPORT ... instead of fixating on taxes, and immigrants, and gays, and abortions, and guns, and their lives of comfort, thanks to fossil fuels.

People don't spend nearly enough time pondering the reality of how SPECIAL it is ... that we were friggin' BORN. That we have this WORLD. That chemistry/physics/evolution even allow for what's happened on this planet to happen. I blame religion for that, mostly. "Magical thinking".

Oh, and unfortunately ... a lot of selfishness and stupidity.
