It says right on the ticket that they reserve the right to bump passengers when needed. Honest. Read the back of your ticket next time you fly. And it's held up in court.

Not saying that what happened to the good doctor was right, just that United was within their rights to bump him (and/or others). How it went down is another matter entirely.

Those are the rules of the contract. Under Rule 25 they most certainly can involuntarily prevent boarding to use the seat for another passenger. Absolutely they can do that.

However, Dr. Dao had boarded and once boarded under the carriage rules, he can only be removed for issues related to safety or behavior under Rule 21. Once he boarded, he could NOT be removed because they wanted his seat.

The carriage rules ARE the contract. United flagrantly violated them.

everyone else: "Waving arms aren't so rigid, and they don't stay at THAT angle!"

SS: "Enough from you and your fake news. Next question from you, there"

RRAAJN: "Biff Booster from the Rah Rah America America Jingo Network. Is this very successful administration doing enough to ferret out America-hating traitors in the mainstream media?"

on the way back to San Antonio, I tangled with United marvelous customer service.

I had a early morning flight out of a smaller city on the western slope. Only flight to DIA that day.....cancelled.

Got my rental car back and came back the next morning, got the flight to DIA, early morning. Yeah!

Had my connecting flight direct to San Antonio with a substantial lay over. Settled in waited, moved gates a couple of times, cancelled.

Got another flight direct, long wait, flight cancelled.....

no more direct flights to San Antionio, got a flight to Houston with a connecting flight to San Antonio..........late. Spent the entire day in DIA.

Got to Houston, went to get my connecting flight............cancelled.

Went and got myself a rental car and drove the rest of the way.

Don't fly United if I am paying for it anymore.

27. Screw up their PR?

No! That's minor compared to how you screwed up an actual human being.

I guess you mean you really screwed up your "cover up".

The fact that Munoz doesn't know how to take responsibility for this is of a piece with United's contempt---utter contempt--for human beings.

Had to buy an airline ticket today and purposely did not even look at United's website.

But PS--we should beware. With airline consolidation, the end of regulations by 45 and the fact that 45 wants to shut down all smaller, rural airports---what happened at United could be the future for all of us. We are cash-cow peons to corporations and their current front operation---the Repug Party.
