The leader of 'Calexit' just announced he's abandoning the movement and settling permanently in Russia

The leader of California separatist group Yes California announced in a 1,600-word statement on Monday that he "intends to make Russia" his "new home" and is therefore withdrawing his petition for a "Calexit" referendum.

Louis Marinelli, who has spearheaded the Calexit campaign since 2015, set up a makeshift embassy in Moscow in December in partnership with far-right Russian nationalists who enjoy Kremlin support while promoting secessionist movements in Europe.

"He added that he will "not return to California in the forseeable future," so "it is only proper" that he withdraw the Calexit ballot initiative petition and "allow a new petition, free from ties to me and drafted by others, to be resubmitted at future date of their choosing."

Uhuh. He's talented at subversion. Probably already working on a new project, or this one in another role.

I keep waiting for the Brits to reexamine the Brexit vote as it becomes more and more clear Russia manipulated that election too.

It really only took a few minutes of research to see the shadiness of this guy and his ties to questionable folks. I'll never understand people who don't put any effort into looking into future details about ideas they embrace.

In 2008 and 2012 we made fun of the Texas Secession people. Remember Rick Perry?

In 2004 people said "California needs to secede!" "New York needs to secede!" 2000 as well.

So there are two things going on here- one, people talking about something like California secession, which isn't going to happen but it's a fairly inevitable piece of steam-blowing-off from the results of last November, and then there's this fairly obvious Russian troll guy. There's overlap, but they're not entirely identical.
