Ted Cruz wants to blame Democrats for a government shutdown in 2017
The chief culprit of the 2013 government shutdown is preemptively angry at Democrats for allegedly considering one
MATTHEW ROZSA
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas may have been the primary culprit behind the 2013 government shutdown, but that doesnt mean he likes the idea of Senate Democrats doing the exact same thing.
After a town hall meeting at an air conditioner manufacturing plant in Waller County, Texas, Cruz told reporters that you know, I very much hope we dont have a shutdown. I will say Im concerned. I think [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer and the Democrats want a shutdown.
He added: You know, one of the dynamics weve got is the Democratic radical left is demanding of Senate Democrats that they oppose everything, that they engage in across-the-board obstruction. And so I do have some concern that to appease the radical left, Chuck Schumer and the Democrats may do everything they can to try to provoke a shutdown.
Cruz also attempted to explain why the Republicans repeal-and-replace bill for Obamacare failed to pass and how the next item on the Republicans agenda, tax reform, could be more successful.
What needs to occur with tax reform is sadly what didnt happen on the front end with Obamacare repeal, Cruz said, noting that the American Health Care Act was drafted behind closed doors, was sprung on the world and then the view of leadership was that no meaningful changes would be made and anyone who opposed would simply beaten into submission. I dont think thats how you get people to yes.

(19,974 posts)the Democratic Party needs far more co-ordination, in hitting back at the Republicans with clear concise points. That Republicans are still chancing their arm in repeating this bullshit, says to me that Republicans aren't being hammered back so hard, they'd be slow to use that line next time.

(68,703 posts)I have heard Democrats say what you want, so yes Democrats are fighting back... but honestly I am sick of the nitpicking concerning Democrats...no I am not necessarily saying this is what you are doing...but there is a mindset that no matter what Democrats do, some who are self identified progressives are never satisfied. I am please with the Democratic fight against the Republicans and think they are doing quite well...I intend to support Democrats now and forever. The 2016 election demonstrated the importance of supporting and voting for a candidate with the 'D' next to his name or face terrible consequences.

(19,974 posts)you can look through my posts and see I wanted Hillary to win the primary and then the GE. I'm not a progressive of the Bernie wing, though I think anyone who is a Democratic Party supporter is by default, a progressive. Anyway, the point I'm making is that when gobshites like Cruz come out with crap like that, I want Democratic politicians to get in his face, and call him out on his lies, rather than meekly put in a point of order "well actually I don't agree with you there". That stuff gets lost in the air, and Republicans do this time after time. I want an army of Maxine Waters

(68,703 posts)I have no interest in rehashing the election or the primary of 16. I want them to fight too and I think they are doing that. I have heard multiple Democrats say that it is up to the GOP to pass the budge and the debt ceiling. Also, sometimes you want to keep them guessing.
"Its a nonstarter with Democrats: Theyll have to fight it out in their caucus, Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., said of the GOP. This
senator, this caucus, is not going to vote for money for a wall.
"Democratic leadership will insist that the budget package carries language to ensure the subsidies are paid. Democrats will not negotiate with hostage takers, said Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, the top Democrat on the Senate Finance committee."

(10,274 posts)Projection. He knows EXACTLY what he's talking about, and so he knows the ins and outs of how accuse elected Dems of his own self-serving bad behavior.
Since it won't work, have at it, fuckhead.
